none of your business, its like people who say you shouldn't get pregnant when your over 50lbs overweight. To be honest one cig or one drink doesn't hurt your child its the people who go overboard. I think people are educated enough to understand smoking cigs and drinking daily is not the most sound thing for your unborn child.

this enrages me to no end!! i've seen so many pregnany women smoking & i get really upset... do i say anything, no... would i say anything if i saw a preggo woman buying ciggs? nope... b/c like PP stated, its none of my buisness

im a former smoker... havent been a smoker in a long time... before getting preggo, did i used to smoke a cigg here and there while drinking or on a stressful day? yup! i wouldnt even THINK of picking up a cigg now that im preggo.... nor do i plan to ever smoke again once LO is here

i have dreams ALL THE TIME that i'm smoking while pregnant & i wake up in a crazy sweat freaking out that i just harmed my baby lol then im like oh whew it was just a dream

I wouldn't say anything either but I am shocked at the number of people who have seen pregnant women smoking!!

I've only seen them on blogs of funny pics and they usually look like rednecks. I didn't think it happened in civilized country - like LI or NYC... (kidding about rednecks and don't want to start a debate on whether or not NY is civilized)...

i wouldn't say anything at all.

just curious for those who think it should be illegal, how would this be enforced? it's not like you have a pregnant sticker slapped onto your license at your first OB appt. Not all baby bumps look the same so would the clerk have to ask "are you preggo?" if so, i'd hate to be that guy!

also, i have heard that heavy smokers are not supposed to quit cold turkey.

I wouldn't say anything. You don't know if they are actually for her. When my friend was pregnant used to buy cigarettes and beer for her husband just cause they thought the look she'd get from people was funny.

Well, I wouldn't say anything. It's not my business. Also, like other's said the person could be buying them for someone else.

I used to buy my DH cigarettes when I was pregnant. I hated doing it because I was so afraid people would think they were for me.

As a bartender, you cannot even refuse to serve a woman alcohol who is pregnant. Its against the law. You can cut her off after one drink and say she is too intoxicated for another drink.

The thought never occured to me, but technically the bartender is serving a minor ...That would be my defense if I was the bartender that refused a pregnant woman alchohol

I quit cold turkey and it wasn't that hard. I don't know how a doctor could tell a woman it's ok to keep smoking while pregnant with everything we know these days about smoking.

But still, I wouldn't say anything to them...

I would first ask if the cigs are for her. If so, then I would say something.

I couldn't bear to see someone treat their body like that and harm a potential life.
My grandmother drank and smoke her entire first pregnancy and because of that, one of my aunts was born premature and a host of other problems. She tried to quit and her next pregnancy resulted in another uncle having Down Syndrome (she lived outside the US and had no education about the harms of drinking/smoking apparently).

A girl I work with is 6 months pregnant and smokes a pack a day. She is more concerned about what will happen if she doesn't sleep on her left side then the smoke she is inhaling all day. I say nothing, it's not my place and it's none of my business.

This frustrates me to no end!! I followed all the "rules" while pregnant, and look what happened to me!! So much unfairness...... (to clarify, I'm not wishing any harm on this girl or her baby AT ALL .. just wallowing in my pity party because I really did try to do everything right .. absolutely EVERYTHING

Its no one's business... like many said, she can be buying for someone else... Im 31 weeks pg and have picked up beer for my husband or a party that we were attending... Just bc I am buying it doesnt mean I would ever drink alcohol while pg.

You say nothing. It's none of your business what SHE does with HER body and HER baby. You don't have to like it, and you don't have to agree with it, and yea you could say something.........But I would be prepared for what you may hear from her. I have to tell you I have NEVER been more judged in my LIFE then when I was pg. EVERYTHING you eat, say, do, wear...EVERYTHING is judged and somebody ALWAYS feels the need to say something about something. I really would like to know when your pg became everybody's buiness.

If you saw a dirty small child in the store would you say something to the mother about the child's eating or hygiene?

absolutely nothing. I've known plenty of people who seriously look 8 or 9 months pregnant all the time. They could also be buying for someone else.

I wouldn't say anything. I'm sure DH will continue to smoke when I'm pregnant... but outdoors and away from me. But I wouldn't even blink an eye at picking up a pack of smokes for him.
