I recently interviewed for a very good position in a great company. The person that I would be working for is a very nice guy, but has a very strong and forward personality, which is fine by me and I actually appreciate somebody that doesn't beat around the bush.

One of my references were contacted this morning by him and they felt like they were being kind of pushed to say something negative about me. Is this normal? I mean I understand that he probably sees that I have a very good relationship with my boss and co-workers and would not want them to cover up anything negative about me, but is this a normal thing to do when checking references?

I am just curious. Thanks!

Did he ask something along the lines of, what are your weaknesses?

If so..I dont think thats bad...but it all depends on what they said!

I think it was more along the lines of, "Has she ever effed up bad"...that kind of a thing...I don't know, I've never heard feedback from my references thats why this is new to me. She did say though that he was an "interesting fellow"Chat Icon

Re: What do you think about this?

Maybe bc this person is so upfront they just want to get "the real deal" about a candidate. Some people have very different approaches when getting references and although I dont particularly agree with him asking such a question - he was probably just trying to weed out the bs most people say.
