What do you think caused my son to throw up???

Noah was just rolling around on the floor of his room and he bumped his forehead on his bed, not like really hard, but enough to cause a bump. So then he started to cry really hard, and then he threw up. He was laughing and was his normal self once he was cleaned up, he has asked for his milk and gone to bed.

So now, the usually not nervous rachel is a nervous wreck! We have put him to bed as normal, and told him if he feels sick to call me.

Do you think the crying could have caused the vomit or should I call NHS Direct to get more help (a telephone nurse service)

hmmm, I would be worried that the vomiting was from the head bump......I would call just for piece of mind

Maybe he threw up because he was crying so hard? That happened to me as a kid, if I cried too hard, I would vomit. It still can happen to me at funerals when I am so badly upset.

I would keep an eye on him and maybe call the doctor if you are worried.

I would just call peds, b/c the bump, vomit and then sleeping are all signs they say to look for. Did this all happen right after eating? if so then most likely vomitting happened b/c of how hard he was crying.

Thanks for the advice, he did have some gummi bears about 20 minutes before bed. I spoke to the nurse service who said as long as he was his normal jolly self, not to take him to the ER tonight, as he threw up soon after eating, it could be that he was crying. They advised me to look in on him in the night a few time and see if he reacts when I give him a poke. Also they are going to call the out of hours doctor to advise me further. If they feel its necessary, they will see me (keep in mind its 8.30 pm here)

I can hear him singing away on the monitor, so he should be fine!

A good friends daughter bumped her head, she barely even cried- she would've never thought twice, until she vomited a half an hour later...

turns our it was a concussion- which they did nothing for.

The Dr told her it isn't about how hard she bumped rather than where she bumped it..

DD bumped her head recently and when I called the dr. one of the symptoms they wanted me to report immediately was if she vomitted. I think I would take him to the Dr.

I am pretty laid back and it could be a coincidence but I would err on the side of caution in this instance.

Thanks everyone, I had a doctor call me and he said as long as he was happy and singing away and he hasn't thrown up again, not to worry about it. He said to check on him a few times tonight and if he reacts normal when you try to wake him up, don't worry about it. I just went up to see him and I tried to turn him over and he wasn't happy with it, so I am hapy that he is okay. He was singing The Wheels on the Bus and shouting before he fell asleep, so I am pretty confident that it was a coincidence that he had a couging spasm and threw up
