This one?
Ummmm NO!!! (TBH the "dress" isn't so bad, it's a bit short but that's it. the thigh-his and platform shoes make it cross a line for me)...

YES! That's the one! My SD wore this without thigh highs and heels...she wore nude panty hose and different shoes (not heels). But still.....

Oh...and we did not purchase this costume for her...her mother did. Chat Icon

i believe it's not the clothes per se, it's how you wear it/accessorize it

Re: What do you think? Halloween Costume related-Fixed picture

At our Middle School dance the girls were all in different versions of that. Short, revealing on the chest area, thigh highs etc....

So I guess it is common.

Re: What do you think? Halloween Costume related-Fixed picture

I think it depends on how it looks on the girl.

you said she didn't wear it with the thigh highs and heels -- so I think that makes a big difference. Is it that short on her?

For a 13 year old, with pantyhose and non-heels, I would say it could be a little risque, but without seeing how it looked on the teen itself, I can't say it's "inappropriate".

The models in these pics tend to be a bit taller and obviously looking to be a bit more 'adult' so it's hard to go by the pic, and think of it on a 13 year old. I have a feeling it would hang/look differently on their frame.

You raise a good point. The skirt was extremely short on her, (think mid-thigh) and the top made her look super busty. She did not look like the model wearing it on the Party City website, but I was definitely taken back by it and thought it was inappropriate. She could have worn a version of the costume that wasn't so "grown up" IMO.

You definitely would know better how she looked -- since you saw her in person. I think teens today just look for an excuse to be a bit more "sexy" than they need to be for their costumes, because that is what all their friends seem to want to do.

If it was that high on her -- then it maybe was a little too mature. Thankfully, halloween happens just one day a year, so hopefully you won't see any other extreme outfits on your SD!

I think it is too revealing for a thirteen year old unless she wears leggings instead of those thigh highs.

Re: What do you think? Halloween Costume related-Fixed picture

It depends. If it meant to be worn slutty, then NO. No way appropriate.

But if the teen is short, the dress wouldn't be so short, and if worn with plain stockings and flats/kitten heel, and as along as the accessories were appropriate, I don't see the problem.

Whether or not the 13 year old girl wears it with those accessories, IMHO it is inappropriate. That particular costume is being marketed in a way that to me doesn't make it appropriate for a young teenager.

Re: What do you think? Halloween Costume related-Fixed picture

I have to chime in on this one:

DD is 14. And 5'8". NOTHING they sell is long enough for her. And some of her friends who are "normal" height have the same problem. Costumes come in 3 size ranges: junior which is waaaay too small, normal otherwise known as trampy, and plus size. There are no mass market costumes that both fit her and are appropriate.

One of her friends wore the costume you posted. Did she wear it as depicted? No. Do I pass judgement on her mother for buying? No, I have spent 3 hours in the stores with her trying on costumes. I understand why the kid has that costume. DD was a cop this year. Complete with leggings(not tights) and uggs and I'm sure if I posted pics people would still have comments.

I usually make her costumes for this reason, however, this year I couldn't. But just so you know, we don't LOVE buying our kids crap like this. And if we have to, we try the best we can to tone it down.

Not appropriate at all IMO. I'm so tired of all the girls' and women's costumes being slutty and revealing.

Re: What do you think? Halloween Costume related-Fixed picture

I honestly can't stand the costumes out for juniors. I said to dh that a few girls looked absolutely like hookers and he said i was a prude (me of all people?) i was like no 13 year old child of ours would be wearing anything that covered their *** to walk down the street. I rather make their costume and have appropriate length like right above the knee.

Re: What do you think? Halloween Costume related-Fixed picture

i honestly dont find anything wrong with 90% of the costumes for them.... i know a lot of ppl who do though. i suppose its how your were brought up and what you find appropriate.

and i have to agree with the fact thats its HOW you act and how you wear it.... not the costume itself...

I dunno, 13 is a little young. Maybe 15/16. Though I was probably wearing that when I was 13. Chat Icon Chat Icon
