What do you use to keep your baby warm in the crib after they are out of the swaddle?

A sleep sack?
I'm just not sure because last night DD slept in her crib for the first time. It went pretty well considering her sleep issues. I acutally got some sleep!

Now we have always swaddled her, but lately I notice she seems to be uncomfortable with it- she is thrashing her legs around, etc. So last night I unzipped the bottom and let her legs free but kept her arms swaddled. She seemed to be good with that.

But it got me thinking- after she is out of the swaddle 100%, what do I use to keep her warm? I know Sleep Sacks are popular, but then her legs would be confined again and that's her issue- she seems to need her legs free to get comfy.

Is 5.5 months too young for a blanket? Is that still dangerous at that age?

Any other suggestions?

I have been using a sleep sack since I stopped the swaddle. Although her legs are in it, she can still move them around pretty freely.

I bought a down sleep sack on etsy, love it so much better than fleece! Its so cozy for this time of year. We sleep under down blankets ourselves and couldn't imagine sleeping winter nights without it.

I used a blanket with DS, had no worries about safety, but he moves around a lot and the blanket usually ended up bunched up in a corner.

Sleep sacks are generally very loose on the bottom and the legs can kick pretty freely. I usually swaddled DS with his arms tight and legs free, he didn't need any adjustment to the sack.

Emmy was out of the swaddle when we took her out of the sleep positioner. She was in a sleep sack and loved it until she REALLY started rolling around and would get mad that she was unable to move her legs. She's sorta obsessed with her toesChat Icon Anyway we just left her with nothing and she was fine. We just started using a handmade blanket that is holey and she just adores it. She also almost 1 though. I did not feel comfortable until she was rolling around, pushing up REALLY well and moving things from her face VERY easily. At 5.5months she wasn't there yet. I believe the Acad. of Pediatrics suggestes waiting until they are 1.

Same here. DD is almost 16 months and walks around her crib in hers- it's so cute!

My DD never really liked sleep sacks so never really put anything on top of her but recently we started putting a blanket but it is not loose it is tucked very snug under the mattress on both sides.

I would try a sleep sack. I had the same fears you did about them - my DD loves to kick and thrash around with her legs. But the sleep sack didnt prevent that at all. She still sleeps 10-12 hours in her crib with the sleep sack on.

Good luck!

On really cold nights, fleece pj's. She rolls around too much for a sleep sack. I know they make sleep sacks with legs, I just haven't bought any yet.

sleep sacks wont confine the legs. they will have plenty of room to move.

I think you should be fine with fleece feetie pj's.

fyi, my son is the same about his legs, from the moment of his birth (acutally in utero b/c he used to kick the SHYTE out of my insidesChat Icon ) and he HATES HATES HATES blankets.

I think as long as you have the room in the 60's temp whice, with a onesie underneath, the fleece pjs. are great.

I use fleece sleep sacks. I've used sleep sacks since day 1, to now at almost 17months. I really believe they've helped her associate, its time to sleep now, and she's been STTN since 2 months (not saying that's the only reason, but it definitely helped...she now pouts when we pull out the sleep sack for bedtime Chat Icon)

Right now DD#2 is 9 months and we put her to sleep in fleece 1pc Pjs. If it's really chilly I put a onesie underneath.

I put DD in Fleece Footie PJS and a fleece sleep sack. House is usually around 70 degrees. Is that too much?

maybe try doubling up the PJs? one size bigger on the top layer? I may try this when transitioning my dd to the crib since we have recieved so many clothing gifts and i would like to get use out of all of them! LOL

OK thanks ladies!
I will try the sleepsack once we get her off the swaddle completely.
She tends to run very hot in general- so I doubt she'd be cold even in just fleece pj's though.
She is just like my DH- always warm and sweating where as I am always freezing!!

We put DD in a onesie and fleece pajamas and she is fine.

The sleep sack wont make her feel confined though, its very loose and light.

I never did a blanket b/c at this point she is all over the place and would never stay covered

The sleep sack while it keeps the legs confined in it, they can still move around and belive me my DD kicks them all the time in the sleep sack.
