7 years in, I really do not buy anything except for a few new outfits. My school provides things like scissors, rulers, glue, etc. I will pick up cheap pencils because those always seem to disappear.

My district provides us with a great budget. The only thing I buy on my own are stickers. I can never find the ones I like in the catalogs.

I'm a supply junky! I seriously get such a rush ordering things over the summer for the new year. I've been in the same classroom for 15 years, so I need to mix it up every couple of years or so. I bought a lot of new posters this year. I've had the same ones up for years and they were all fading. I hated the way the front of my room always gets so unorganized. So I bought 2 shelf systems from ikea the other week. DH and I went in and put them together and into my room. They look awesome and I can't wait to load them up with colored baskets for supplies. Every year, I also seem to buy a new mesh desktop organizer. I must have 5 different ones. I have to have everything out and in view. What's in the drawers of my desk might as well not even exist.

Hi Ladies -
I strongly encourage everyone to use donors choose for supplies you and your students need. My colleagues and I have had a lot of luck. Our school has limited resources for supplies. Just wanted to spread the word.

Re: What do you usually buy for the start of the new year?

I buy soooooo much each yr (NYC teacher in a great school but little supplied to us plus I,mcrazy and hate when things get crappy looking)

Every yr I buy something new for my room(ie new pocket chart)

Chart markers
Sharpies
Homework passes
Baskets (not entire classroom but replacement of yucky/broken ones)
Pens
Copy paper
Construction paper
Binder rings
Laminating sheets
Sheet protectors
Backing paper (needed,a new color)
Organizational stuff
Book baggies for each kid (I detest ziplocks)

I'm sure I could go onChat Icon

Re: What do you usually buy for the start of the new year?

Today a bought a few things:
1. center task workbooks (I laminate them and use velcro to make folder tasks).
2. A giant pocket chart calender for morning meeting! (seriously, so exciting)
3. Another pocket chart thing that holds folders-going to use it for 1:1 data folders.
4. a million dry-erase markers
5. post-it chart paper (the best invention ever)
6. Some reading comp. workbooks to make copies from for homework.
7. I replaced my laminator and bought the sheets.
8. velcro (the giant roll of it)

***In special ed. (autism world) the most valuable things on earth are laminators, velcro and colored masking tape. Just my two cents, lol.

I will probably do a Costco run and buy paper towels, Clorox wipes, baby wipes and tissues, since my school doesn't provide these things (or HEAVILY rations them). I will buy a good supply of them and then lock them up in my classroom so no one takes them, lol.

I think with Common Core and APPR we're going to need a caseChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously, LI district... has NEVER ever provided me with anything except, until now, copies. Now, we're paperless... stay tuned to see how that goesChat Icon

I buy so much for my classroom but do not hand out supplies to the students... very, very rare is there a child in my classroom (high school) who has a true financial hardship case... they don't appreciate them and rarely return them. Sad, but I can no longer keep tissues on my desk... they'd go through a box a day
