What is the difference between internist and a medical doctor?

Internists are MDs, but not all MDs are internists.
Internists are usually general practioners that don't specialize. MDs can be internists but they can also specialize.
For example, a psychiatrist is an MD. So is a Orthopedist.
I'm sure someone else will come along and fix what i said and clarify more.
