what documents are needed for a mortgage?
I have a bunch of things and our bank gave us a list, but it seems so short!!
what did you have to give your bank and how many months/years worth?

ours asked for bank statements, tax returns and a bunch of random other things. DOnt worry the list is short now but they will continue to add things up until the last minute.

2 pay checks (to cover 1 month)
Tax returns from previous year
Our SS# for credit check

yup....just tax returns for 2 years and paystubs for 2 months.....then every other day they needed some other random document

yup....just tax returns for 2 years and paystubs for 2 months.....then every other day they needed some other random document
can you share what the random documents?  it seems everyone can keeps telling me that, but I have no idea what those are

it depends on your specific situation. We had a former property that they needed to know the loan was paid off.....so what I needed will be different from you and everyone else. DOnt worry its all stuff that you should have and if you have not had other property or your own business then it should be straight forward. DH has his own business so that was another thing they needed info on.

SS to run credit
Tax return
bank statements (depends on lender how far back they want it)
Paystub
Some will contact your employer to verify employment and income.

The "random" items are all stips...stipulations after the file goes thru the computer system
They are different for everyone- but won't be anything you don't have

Ummm....trying to remember.
-letter from DH's union saying how long he has been employed
-bank statement stamped and signed by bank teller
-letter from AmEx saying I was no longer on my dads card (from when I was a teenager! it still came up on my credit report-i have since cleared it up, but it was easier to get it in writing from them)
-copy of my student loan to show minimum payment (no idea why!!)
can't think of the other things now. I think it depends on your situation. Once they start to process the loan they come up with these random things. It was nothing crazy, and nothing I didn't have or couldn't get - just a little annoying

Right. We just got this yesterday.
To get our mortgage commitment, we needed:
- 2 pay stubs
- last year's W2
- 1 year of canceled rent checks (we rent now)
- all pages of all bank statements for 3 months (this meant faxing about 30 pages to them - a real PITA)
We got our mortgage commitment yesterday. ( ) The stuff they need now is:
- one more recent bank statment
- a canceled check to prove I paid the earnest money deposit
- a letter from me explaining why I have 2 addresses listed on my credit report (one is my dad's address and I guess I've gotten mail there)
- A letter from me explaining why I made a large withdrawl from one bank account and a large deposit into another (duh, I transfered money from savings to checking to write the earnest money check)
Pretty straightforward. For now, DO NOT THROW AWAY any pay stubs or bank statements you get. That's pretty much the bulk of what you need and it's easier to keep them than to try to get new copies.
