In my old district the dean was in charge of discipline. We would all joke that she pretty much had the worst job in the builidng because all she saw were the "bad" kids.
She was awesome though, and within about 18 months was offered an AP job.

My old district they had to have Admin certification, not sure if that is the standard though.

in NYC you don't need an admin licesnce to be a dean. and yes, as PP said it is a lot of disciplining. DH is doing his SBL/SDL certification now, so its a nice step and something to have on his resume for when he wants an AP job.
In his school though he still teaches 2 (or 3) periods a day and does dean stuff the rest of the day.

Thanks. I have an interview for a dean position today. I applied to it because it didn't say sda-sba certification. I would hope they realize that before calling me. I am in the process of applying to the college of st rose cohert so maybe that will help.

I work for the DOE and our deans are just teachers. I think it's a four or five year commitment and you have to apply for the job. Our deans take care of all discipline issues - I honestly don't know what our APs do because I think the deans do it all!

Discipline so the principal and AP can deal with other stuff. Sometimes they have admin license and sometimes just a teaching lic

The interview went really well. They are screening 18 candidates and calling 7 back next week for a 2nd interview Friday.
They said I will know by Thursday.
