What does a math coach do? (or any coach)
Can someone tell me what the general role is.
How often are they in the math classrooms?
What is the relationship/hierarchy among the principal, teacher, and coach? (Does the teacher report to the principal or coach?)
Any other info about the role?
is the pay higher? (That's just for MY own info! ha! )
Thanks, I'm trying to figure out how things work...it really wasn't outlined in my school.
**I am the teacher, not the coach.

I guess you are either in middle or elementary school? My friend was a math coach and for her it was a comp time position~ meaning she didn't get paid anymore, but she taught less classes. In a good school the math coach would be an exemplary teacher in that field and in general as well. Their job is to help you with the curriculum and lessons and to offer support and pointers. Since you are a first year, they may come to your room as often as once a week. Sometimes they only come when asked. In most schools they are not considered administration, as most don't have AP licenses, that is not always the case though. They can not write you up or give you an unsatisfactory, but they can report what they see to your AP or principal.
You should have at least a grade level AP, if not dept AP. Your first line of admin is AP then principal. The coach is more like a liaison rather than admin.
HTH and I have a good vocab game for you I forgot about, oh and a puzzle.
