What does a pediatric dentist do differently than a regular dentists? Any recommendations near Valley Stream?
Do they have child-size chairs? Child-size equipment?
Decorated like a peds office with cartoon characters?
Our regular dentist said he could see our toddlers but just wanted to see if there would be much difference?
He has a good bedside manner to engage kids.

How old is your dc? I know for us, the pediatric dentist has tons of patience and tries all sorts of tricks to get her to open up. She even had me hold the mirror when dd was apprehensive of the dentist, and let dd hold it as well. We also tried different positions, first with dd in the chair, then eventually her lying on me. She also has the fluoride that brushes on and dd can eat/drink immediately. Dd was 2 and 2.5 at her first 2 visits, and I remember saying there was no chance a regular dentist would have the same bag of tricks for my apprehensive and stubborn child. If she was a little older or a little more easygoing, it may have been a different scenario...

We saw a pediatric dentist to start, but once I found an awesome family dentist, I started using her with my kids also. She is a mom with kids my kids' ages, so I think she gets kids. Her hygienists are good with my kids also. She also takes my insurance, which the pediatric dentist didn't. I also felt pressured to give my kid sweet air when she needed a procedure and in hindsight, I should have resisted it. She also told me not to bring my 2 year old in until she was closer to 4, unless there is an issue. The pediatric dentist wanted to see them by 18 months...I'm sure that was just to "get them comfortable" and charge my insurance.

My dentist is in Valley Stream and is awesome. Both he and his wife (they are partners) have been seeing my DD since she was 3. They are patient, understanding, and know how to calm and occupy children. I highly recommend him - Dr Iryami on Rockaway near Peninsula Blvd

New Wave in Lynbrook. They saved me the trouble of having unnecessary dental work done on DD when I came to them for a second opinion. It's a peds practice (tv on the ceilings and different children themed rooms), and my kids are quite comfortable there. It's a husband and wife practice. The wife is a peds dentist, and the husband does orthodontics.
