What does CTD mean when referring to an elementary school class?
Can anyone explain to me what CTD means? I was told that each grade in the elementary school has one of these classes, but what does it mean?
TIA!

In my district, CTD stands for "consultant teacher direct" which means there are children in the class with IEPs, who receive a certain amount of time with a special ed teacher in the classroom (in addition to the regular classroom teacher). Basically, it's a form of inclusion class.

So, as a parent, should you be concerned that your child is put in this class, but not one of the children that needs the extra help?

I wouldn't be concerned. Some parents hope their child will get into this class. Your child ends up with the informal benefit of having 2 teachers in the room.

I have been teaching a Collaborative class for 6 years and can tell you that there is nothing to worry about. In fact, we have had parents whose siblings we had in the past specifically request us because they feel like their "general education" child benefitted so much.

My son was in a CTD class as the classified child. CTD does not mean the teacher is in there all day. Only an aide. At least that is how it works in our district. The Special Education teacher pushes in for part of the day. Usually one period (ours was 42 minutes).
I would have zero issue with my NT child being in a CTD class. An inclusion class or integrated class would be even better, since the Special Ed teacher is usually in there full time.
