What does sleep thru the night really mean?
Sidney is 10 weeks old. She usually sleeps from 9pm to about 3am and then after that its anyones guess when she will get up again. But the last 2 nights I have been giving her the pacifier when she stirs at 3am and she fell right back to sleep till 5am.
If she were to "sleep thru the night" does that mean sleeping from 9pm to 9am?? And without stirring at all?
Also, I feel guilty giving her the pacifier and not the boob. I assume that she would cry if she was really hungry...right???
TIA

sleeps through the night means that he or she sleeps from 8 to 7 without waking up once or let's say they drop their pacifier, as soon as it's back in their mouth they fall back asleep.
but she is doing pretty good so far.

They don't have a clapping icon, so I figured this would be the best!!!!
Congrats, that sounds to me like DEFINATELY sleeping through the night, for her age!!!!
And don't feel bad about giving her the paci.. she will let you know if she wants the boob!!

Re: What does sleep thru the night really mean?
I was told that "sleeping through the night" actually means five hours + (when they don't have to wake every two to three hours to eat). It sounds like you've reached that so hopefully the time spent sleeping will just get longer and longer.

Yes, I was also told that "sleeping thru the night" for an infant means 5+ hrs. Jake has been sleeping 8pm - 4am without stirring so I've developed a new definition of sleeping through night: when they stop getting up before the sun!

For us it's sleeping by 10:00 or 11:00 and not waking up until 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning. The twins started to do this at 3.5 months.

I read sleeping thru the night is 5+ hours for infants.
I also read as they get a bit older (I think after three months), going 8+ hours without a feeding.

Booo....i don't like the 5+ hour answer. Sidney sleeps for 5-6 hours but I get up atleast 3x a night with her. I guess I'm gonna have to go to bed with her at 9am to get some rest.
By the way...I can't get her to give up that 3am feeding....I guess those 2 days were just a fluke.
