What does your DC do for lunch? Need ideas.
My son refuses to take sandwiches anymore because his lunch is late in the day and he says they taste bad. He has been buying hot lunch a lot but I am wondering what else I can send him with that doesnt need to be heated up?

Yogurt Cheese Slices/Sticks Cereal Cereal Bar Would he eat "roll ups". If you just roll the cold cuts and leave them off the bread?

We're currently in love with Go Picnic lunches-which I buy at Target!
Go Picnic
We also like mini-bagels with cream cheese, greek yogurt and the classic pb&j sandwich.

Right now DS is taking uncrustables- pb and strawberry jam on ww, reduced sugar.
I think someone else in school had them because he asked for them at the store.
He takes that with a juice box, apple, and yogurt.
The pb&j is frozen and I also freeze the yogurt, plus I put an ice pack in his lunch bag. It stays fresh and the ice pack is still pretty cold when he comes home.

thermos makes a great thermos that keeps stuff hot or cold. Sometimes I put milk in the thermos and put cereal in a ziplock and let her have it.
For hot food I also use it- I make homemade chicken nuggets, heat them in the AM and put them in there.. then I use a container for a little ketchup and some baby carrots.
Do the same w/ pasta &meatballs (homemade)
and chicken noodle soup & crackers.

I know this may sound strange, but I pack all of the components for a deli type sandwich separately, because I agree with your DS, they get nasty after a while. I keep the turkey, cheese and either bread or rice cakes wrapped individually and DS builds his own sandwich. He does seem fine with peanut butter and jelly or nutella sandwiches being premade. He also like yogurt, or I'll make a grilled cheese with bacon and then wrap it in foil. It's certainly not even warm by the time he eats it, but he still likes it.

I agree, my girls take the thermos 3 to 4 times a week (I buy a pie of pizza, freeze the leftovers and then send cut up pizza that I reheat that morning. Other usuals are potstickers, left over soups/stews/pasta, chicken nuggets).
They only bring a sandwich 1x a week and eat pizza from school on Fridays.

DS#2 is very picky and pretty much only does bagel with cream cheese.
I do have for #1 a sandwich container where I can freeze the top, which helps for some things in lunch.

Re: What does your DC do for lunch? Need ideas.
Funny you say that about the sandwiches. If I send DS with PB&J, he eats it all but if it is cold cuts, he literally takes one or two bites. But at home he eats sandwiches. Thanks for the uncrustables idea! I just sent him him homemade chicken nuggets yesterday in his Funtainer and he ate most of them. I'm going to do that with ravioli and mac and cheese too. He said the nuggets were still warm and his lunch is at 1pm.

Re: What does your DC do for lunch? Need ideas.
I pack warm food in the Funtainer and it keeps it pretty warm. Pasta usually. I used to pack my son chicken nuggets, and he ate them, but they were REALLY soggy by the time lunch came.
As for sandwiches, I only do jelly or PBJ and make my own uncrustables on wheat bread with the cut n' seal from pampered chef. I don't do lunch meat because even with ice packs, the lunch box doesn't stay cold enough. I also pack yogurt, fruits, veggies, rice cakes, etc.

Re: What does your DC do for lunch? Need ideas.
my son has an uncrustable or pb&J every day. friday he asked for a cheese sandwich and ate half of that.
i try to send other things with it that are more substantial then just a snack. granola bar, cereal bar, yogurt, cheese and crackers etc. so if he doesn't eat the sandwich at least the snack will fill him up. i usually do some fruit and a little snack with it.

Re: What does your DC do for lunch? Need ideas.
We do the lunchables, pb & j, or my Dd will bring cold cuts rolled up and crackers on the side so they dont get mushy.
They also sell deli type sandwiches as an alternative at our school also.

DD is very picky. she will take cereal, peanut butter sandwiches(no jelly LOL), yogurt and a muffin, or sometimes a lunchable. I am going to look into this funtainer everyone is talking about though.

This is the one I have. If I send DD hot lunch it's usually pasta or rice. I heat it up in the morning put it in the funtainer and by lunch it's still warm.
