What exactly is a yolk sac?
We went for our 6wk 2 d sono yesterday. We got to see the heartbeat!!!! It was amazing! She was explaining what everything was and there was a yolk sac. But I dont know what that is...

this is the defination I found on Yolk Sac Defination on Wikipedia.org
"The yolk sac is the first element seen in the gestational sac during pregnancy, usually at 5 weeks gestation.
It is a critical landmark, identifying a true gestation sac.
It is reliably seen early in pregnancy using ultrasound."

It provides everything the baby needs (nutrients, etc) until the placenta is formed and takes over.
