When I think Prof attire, I think pant suits/skirt

Blazer or jacket with dress pants/skirt,
button down shirt underneath.

Re: What exactly is "Professional Attire"?

When professional attire is specifically referenced, it means a suit (including a tie for men).

"Business casual" would be dress slacks or skirt with a sweater or other appropriate top for women. For men, I think business casual is a button down shirt with the top button open and nice slacks. A jacket is probably not necessary. Some think polo shirts constitute business casual for me, but I think they are way too casual (at least in my line of work). In different environments, though, business casual could be even more casual.

ETA - "Business attire" is interchangeable with "professional attire" IME.

I agree, professional attire typically means a suit.

I have sent many of my students to this site to learn more about appropriate attire for interviewing/work environments:

Suits, pants, skirts, button down shirts, sweaters...in corporate, the colors are usually, black, brown, white, navy and gray.
