What exactly is the deal with Fairway?
Do they sell organic foods? Regular grocery items?

Re: What exactly is the deal with Fairway?
As someone who shopped at Fairway weekly for years, I'm a fan.
Yes, the parking lot could be crazy, and the crowds. But until very recently, I had never found another market with as good fresh-made, non preservative ridden food as theirs.
Their meat Shephard's Pie is insane. I bought one every week. Their burritos, soups, and wraps were also good. DH loved their hot food bar, as did I. Not to mention the pickle selection, olives, cous cous, sushi etc.
I always found every specialty item I needed for baking whether it be an oscure cheese, nut or lady fingers etc.
And they were one of the first places I found Seventh Generation products and Amy's organic frozen meals.
We did compare prices for certain items like cereal, etc. and a lot of it was comparable. I'm not going to tell you all the prices are better or worse than a supermarket because no one can definitively say that for thousands of products. You'll just have to compare for yourself.
They certainly cater to a certain kind of shopper. If you're feeding a family and strictly looking for large capacity, typical stuff, it's probably not for you.

Re: What exactly is the deal with Fairway?
I was in Fairway yesterday - amazing meats, produce, cheese, olive bar. They have tons of variety and lots of international foods. Also plenty of organic, free range, farm raised products.
It wasn't crowded at ALL yesterday. I think the key is to pick your shopping time carefully - I try not to go on the weekends.
I don't find it to be too $$. And I do my "other" shopping - garbage bags, paper goods, etc. - at Target.

Re: What exactly is the deal with Fairway?
Thanks...
Mainly looking to decide where to go for Organic Fruits, veggies and Meats....and some obscure speciality foods like cheeses.
Our local markets dont carry enough, TJ's is closest but doesnt carry enough either.
But I would like a store that has the neccesisties if I need them...
