I think the Wii U would be a good choice.

Re: What gaming system for a 6yo?
My DS just turned 6, but we bought him the Wii u last Dec for his 5th birthday. We weren't that familiar with gaming systems, either, but Wii is always recommended fir younger kids and there are lots if games he can okay or we can play as a family. I would recommend it!

Re: What gaming system for a 6yo?
We just ordered the Wii U bundle for the kids for Christmas.
We initially ordered Xbox, but when my DH spoke with his brother who was at one point a buyer for gaming consoles & games at PC Richards, he said we would have been better with Wii U...so we canceled and reordered. (Plus our current Wii games & remotes will work with the Wii U.)
We also ordered a Karaoke game which comes with two microphones for the kids. We suggested to our in-laws (their uncles) to consider Wii U games for gifts instead of more toys.

Re: What gaming system for a 6yo?
Thanks all. Got the Wii U at Target, but since TRU had it for $30 less, they will price match when I go back with the flyer.
Any good games to get? Got just dance kids, Mario Cart, and another Just dance.

Boom Blox is really cool. It's like Extreme Jenga, but some of the blox can explode....

Re: What gaming system for a 6yo?
My DH is a big baby so we have a PlayStation, Wii, xBox 360 and now an Xbox One.
They still use the 360 and now the One. My 5 year old likes to play the Lego games (Marvel, Batmas etc) but needs DH's help. He also likes the NHL Hockey
I have to limit him to weekends and 1 night a week for 30 minutes or he'd be glued to that stupid thing!

My kids (8, 6 & 4) seemed to love Mario Kart and the Just Dance games, along with the standard Wii Sports games.
Lego Marvel is on their suggested list, but I have two boys. My DD liked anything Barbie, but when she was younger, it required me sitting with her to help with prompts/reading.
