Re: What hardships/obstacles have you overcome in your relationship/marriage?
ours was also financial, both DH and I were laid off in one year time frame he was before the wedding and I was after
It's def. not easy but we did get through it and we're doing better than ever
Good luck to you and your DH. He passed the test so I feel you two are on the way to a better path.
Good luck!
p.s. did you get my FM about the bedding?

I did...thank you. We'll see what comes about closer to the due date and figure it out then! I can't worry about something so minor. Target had some nice simple stuff that I threw on my registry and maybe someone will pick it up.

Great I'm happy to hear that! This may not be what you want to hear but I'm a big believer in things happen for a reason and good things happen to good people. I really believe your situation will work itself out to your advantage.
Good luck!

Re: What hardships/obstacles have you overcome in your relationship/marriage?
Living up stairs from MIL. Its a hard thing to deal with bc she is ALWAYYYYS up stairs. If we want to go shopping on the weekends she comes, no matter what we do shes there. We have fought about it a lot but there isnt anything I can do. DH dad passed away and he feels its his job to take care of her since my BIL does nothing either. Plus she gave us the house, what am I gonna do kick her out? Its getting better I guess, we decided we are going to actually sell the house and find one where we can put an apartment on the side with her own kitchen and dens.

I don't feel like we have really had any yet. But I know that being parents is going to change a lot and our financial situation is going to be different once the baby comes.

Nothing really that bad but in 2002 I had to quit my job and it was so hard not only financially but emotionally. We obviously got through that when I got a job 4 months later.

Re: What hardships/obstacles have you overcome in your relationship/marriage?
When we were first engaged, I had gotten laid off and then was in a miserable job for a year and a half, so I definitely had to lean on my DH for support. Then, about six months ago, while still planning our wedding, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. Between the stress of the wedding and my father's illness, I was a total basket case and this was definitely hard on both of us. Now, we're dealing with noisy downstairs neighbors who wake us up all the time, so I guess things have improved!

Re: What hardships/obstacles have you overcome in your relationship/marriage?
We've DEFINITELY had financial hardships, and we are better off for having been through it together. It was before we were even engaged. We knew we were going to get married, so when we moved to Boston, we just kind of combined finances and took care of each other. He was going to school full-time to finish his degree, so he couldn't work full-time, and I didn't have a job when we moved up there. We were doing fine once I found a job, but then the affordable apartment we were living in had a drive-by shooting, and we had to up and move to a MUCH more expensive place, further away from Boston. So not only did our rent sky-rocket, it also cost JT hundreds of dollars to take the train to Boston every month. (we couldn't afford two cars, even.) We were DESTITUTE. I don't even know how we lived. We had to pick and choose every month which were the most important bills to pay because we couldn't afford them all! Anyhow, a smart student loan move on JT's part helped us out a lot the last 5 months JT was in Boston. He was able to pay the remainder of our rent for the lease with part of his student loan, and that's also when I moved home to NY with my parents to find a job. Things just turned around from there. COMPLETELY. I can't even believe we ever lived like that. But I knew I could marry a man if we made that situation work for us. In addition to that, when we moved back from Boston, we had to deal with JT's mother. It was not easy because up until we moved away, she had been nothing but pleasant around me. So dealing with her was hard, and then she discovered she cancer for the third time, but this time in her lungs. THat was a rough time for us, too.

Donna, for you and your Dad.
And you can run the vacuum until the downstairs neighbors get the hint!
