What if you HATE to excersise?
I need need need to loose my baby weight before I scream. I am seriously starting to get depressed. Everytime I look in the mirror I want to cry, and sometimes doI have 15llbs to go, but would love to loose 20. The problem is I hate the gym, I have never done yoga, pilates, zumba, kickboxing etc. (though I am willing to try), I have lost weight in the past by running, but, shocker, I hate that too Walking with the baby everyday isn't enough. I know the first thing I need to do is eat better, but it is so hard because I am EBF and am always hungry.
So my question is, how do I motivate myself and what programs do you suggest??

honestly, i hate all "exercise for the sake of exercising." if i'm running, i want to be running TO somewhere or FROM something - there needs to be a point to it, KWIM? i do however enjoy yoga and martial arts as well as other sports. you may feel the same. a lot of places will offer 1 free class or even a month free so you can make a decision. you can try zumba, etc. too, but i know for me, they're a little too blegh. kickboxing can go either way depending on who's teaching it (martial arts instructor vs aerobics instructor, etc.).

I hate exercising. I do it only because I hit a plateau and exercising got me through it. If I didn't have to exercise to lose weight, I wouldn't.
I do the least amount necessary to lose-I'm doing 30 minutes a night, the biggest loser cardio max or 30 day shred.

I pretty much hate exercise
I do it to stay in shape/for my health. Honestly, if I was a naturally thin person I doubt I would exercise...the only thing I dont mind doing is walking....

I think when you have to exercise to get fit, it's boring and not fun. It is definitely more fun when you have someone to do it with. Does anyone go to your gym? I go with my sister. I like doing the classes because they're different and not so boring. I love spin and pilates!

This may be true but excercise is for a lot more than just weight loss. There are so many other benefits to physical activity and that alone "should" make us want to do it!
I agree with others to find the activity that you enjoy and it won't be such a drag. Kickboxing? Spinning or outdoor cycling? Interval training?
Once you get into a consistent workout routine, your body will crave the excercise! I feel like crap when I miss a few days, even 20 min of something makes me feel better.

this may be true, but I lost a lot of my weight without exercise (got lazy halfway through) and was left with a saggy, jiggly mess
I am currently exercising at least a few times a week

I disagree 100%. Both diet and exercise are KEY in weight loss and healthy lifestyle. While diet is very important, you also need to get moving. Diet tends to be slightly more important than exercise based on recent studies, however it does not account for 90 % of weight loss.
To the OP, find an exercise that you enjoy. Exercise doesn't have to equal the gym or classes. It can come in a varitey of forms. I am trying to instill this lesson in a friend who I am currently training. She isn't loving the which makes exercise hard for her, I told her to find something she does love. You should look for somethign you enjoy doing!

I highly recommend doing yoga.
I actually started doing hot yoga back in February and think I'm addicted.
And I still consider myself a "beginner". I had only done a few yoga DVDs before going.
I seriously wish I could go more often (right now I try to get there between 2-3x per week).
The studio I go to is very welcoming and there are always a large number of newbies in each class. They never single you out or make you feel awkward either.
I am definitely NOT a gym person and I am not athletic or a dancer.

I would start with a program like weight watchers first. I personally think starting to exercise & "diet" at the same time is setting yourself up for failure. It is a lot of changes to do at once. I have lost 17lbs doing weight watchers without doing any exercise...

Unfortunately research shows that it is extremely hard to maintain weight loss without exercise. Eating right and excercise go hand and hand.

I used to hate excersising but I forced myself to do it for so long that now I've come to love it...its become like a drug. When I don't do it I feel fat, flabby & miserable.

this is UNTRUE. Exercise AND diet are BOTH key to ideal health and fitness.
As PPs have said, exercise is more than just weight loss.
There are not many people who truly do like going to the gym (i happen to love it but i know most people hate it)
My advice now would be- get yourself an Ipod and download a crapload of motivating music. Then, make your gym goals small and realistic. START SLOW. Go 2-3x a week for perhaps 30 mins each. VARY your workouts so you dont get bored. Try a weight class. I know a lot of people likethe classes bc someone is telling you what to do and ther eis a start and end time.
Ultimately, if you want to lose this weight AND KEEP IT OFF, imho, exercise really needs to be a part of your life
eta: once you start seeing results, you will appreciate going a lot more

if you google it, you will see that there's a lot of research supporting that diet is more important than exercise for weight loss.
i wouldn't ever tell anyone to NOT exercise but that's what the research says. for myself i feel like exercise makes all the difference but i know that when i'm working out i pay far more attention to what i eat and i make better choices.
to the OP: try different things, see what you like. I HATE the treadmill so much but I love taking different classes. Find something that you think is fun because that's what you'll stick to. Good luck.

I Walk. I Walk all over the city and I walk my dog every day.
There was a time in my life when I was at the gym 1-3 hours a day but the past few years I just cant (I think b/c I hate my new gym)

From my experience, I get into periods where I love exercising and periods where I hate it. When I hate it, its mainly because I got bored.
So my suggestion is to find activities that are physically demanding that wont make it feel like you are working out. Maybe try to spend a lot of time outdoors.
When we went to Hawaii, we climbed Diamond Head. It was killer but I enjoyed it. The next day my toosh and legs were killing me. I wish there was a hiking trail by me, because I really enjoyed doing that.
Maybe find dance workout dvds that are fun so you dont really feel its a workout

i don't mind it, but I feel like i do so much better if it is something i want to do.
i am so burnt out on zumba, that then i found a cardio funk class. i am a 30 day shred lover.
i walk with my double stroller 3 miles about 4-5 times a week. i know running will do more...but i love walking, so that is what i do. sometimes i run, sometimes walk. change it up.
also, since i have 30 day shred in my head and can't stand her voice another second-i just go through the routine at night while watching my shows. 30 mins a night after kids are in bed and house clean.
i don't even realize i am doing so many reps. i skip the cardio part since i already walked that day. during grey's this week...stand in living room with weights and force yourself to do 30 mins of anything.

I think you have to find what you're interested in. Once you find "it" I think you'll find that you really enjoy it. Also, once you see the change in your body, your motivation will increase tremendously!
