What is a better size to have?

My current stockpot is 6 quarts, fine for pasta but I also want something bigger to use for soups, stews, etc.

I'm looking at a 12Q and a 16Q option. What size do you think is better to have? Is 12Q too small? 16Q too big? I'm looking to order from Amazon so it's hard to get an idea of what is better

I'd probably get the 12Q. I think 16 would be humoungous!

I was leaning toward 12 but I also saw 20 and 24 so I didn't know if those were just industrial size or something!

Go 16, better to have the room.

i agree - my mom has this size and it's also good for boiling ears of corn and steaming lobsters.

Re: What is a better size to have?

16 is about the size of your standard lobster pot. I have used mine for more than that (soups, stews, etc) and it's been worth it to have the extra room.

I think I have the 16Q and I use it to make huge pots of soup.

I use a 16Q for chicken soup, corn, lobster and clambakes.

12 is good too. It depends what you use it for.

I have an 8 quart that I use all the time for sauces.
