What is a fair amount of time to wait for an estimate from a contractor??
For something like putting up drywall and painting two rooms? Just wondering

He should give it to you on the spot.

I don't agree with this. They need to price out the job/materials and labor. Prices are always changing so sometimes they may need to contact the supplier etc. I think a week is a decent amount of time, but the holidays may delay a little.

K--I'm confused, you mean after he came in & did the estimate? Or you called & you are waiting for him to come & give you the estimate?

Depends on how busy the contractor is. We deal with a very reputable and busy contractor, and have to wait a bit for our estimates, but we don't mind.
I think for our master bathroom estimate, we waited from one to two weeks to get back all estimates (we had estimates from three contractors).

Came and looked over the rooms and we are waiting for a call about how much it will be.

Some you may wait forever....
when we had to get our house painted...one painter we had to track down for the estimate afterwards. So of course we were like, he apparently doesn't want the job so we didn't even bother.
If too long goes by, not a good sign IMO.
