What is a high-need baby?
I've heard of this term. How can you tell if your baby is one?
Is this why some babies are light sleepers?

Re: What is a high-need baby?
Spend an hour with my little drama queen and you'll know in an instant what it means! High needs usually refers to a baby who has trouble sleeping... particularly anywhere except in mommies arms! One who has a bit of a temper if things don't go exactly the way they want when they want (in the beginning my daughter would pinch me fiercely if we took too much time giving her a bottle) and one who demands constant attention and holding. My daughter is not the type of baby that wakes up and can play in her crib by herself for 10 minutes... the minute she wakes up she cries until someone goes to get her. If she's playing on the floor and I step up out of her view, she starts crying.. ohhh and the list goes on and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...

Re: What is a high-need baby?
I believe it also has to do with sensitivity. A baby that is hypersensitive to lights, sounds, people.
IMO most people think they're all high need until the differences start showing up at 3 months.

Re: What is a high-need baby?
My older daughter was HN and for her it wasn't about sensitivity to light, sounds, etc. She hated the car seat, stroller, needed to nurse and be held ALL the time. She fussed and cried a lot and it wasn't colic. This lasted for almost 1.5 yrs. Dr Sears has books about HN babies.

I agree it has nothing to do with sensitivity as DD is fussy at night, during the day, either sounds or no sounds... There is no rhyme or reason to her... DD is normally happy in the sling and of course while nursing! I have Dr. Sears Baby Book but want to get his Fussy Baby book too! Glad it got , better, can't wait
