everyone gets one....it is a detailed ultrasound where they check the baby's heart, brain, liver, kidneys, lungs, all the vital organs and they check the size of the baby....this is usually when you can find out the sex, if you wish
It is done between 18-22 weeks usually

Re: What is a Level Two and when do you get one?
Level II is a sonogram usually give at around 20 weeks. I am under the impression that everyone gets one. They do TONS of measurements during the sono, measuring all the baby's organs, limbs, etc. They can *usually* tell you or then too, if baby cooperates. I believe it may also be referred to as the anatomy scan, maybe?
It's soooo cool! You should get some great pictures too!

Everyone does get one, but it is not always called a Level II. My doctor's office called it an "anatomy scan".

just a more detailed look at everything from the kidneys, heart, brain... your cords...just every lil nook and crannie normally takes place at 20wks... (give or take)

Another Question: Re: What is a Level Two and when do you get one?
Thank you!
So follow up question, what is the Nuchael Translucency & Ultrascreen? What is done then, that is also a sono right?

That is also a sono. Mine was done at 13 weeks. They measure the folds of skin in the back of the baby's head and also take some blood (finger prick). It is to test for Downs.

The Nuchal Translucency & Ultrascreen are the same test, just can be called either. It's done at ~12 weeks (this test is pretty specific as to when it needs to be done). It is a regular sono, and they measure the folds in baby's neck. This, in combo w/other testing done at 16 weeks (if you opt for it), can give you a combined overall Downs risk. The Nuchal/Ultrascreen is optional, you do not have to get it if you do not want to.
Again, you should get more pictures too, and get to see the baby moving around!

From what I hear, the level II is a long appointment, so make enough time for it.

Re: What is a Level Two and when do you get one?
Thanks Ladies. My doctor did not really explain what each one was and I was a little confused.

Yeah, it can be, depending on how well baby is cooperating! I think my sono took maybe 30 minutes total, then I met with my Dr. But the tech said my little was being very cooperative, and the tech actually spent time showing us the baby and pointing things out!

I assure you that not everyone gets one. I only had it done with this baby so DH would feel more involved since we weren't finding out the sex. I didn't have any sonograms with my first and really didn't find this one necessary either.

Oh, I never realized that! I just thought everyone got it, because they look at everything, not just looking for Downs risks!
