What is a reasonable price for a painter?

We have some painting jobs that need to be done around the house - mainly painting the nursery (12x12) and scraping, sanding and treating the wood on the outside of our house (we have a tudor and it's the wood that frames out the stucco)

I have a few painters to call today, but I'm just sondering what a reasonable price to expect would be to have these jobs done. The outside job might be a little hairy, as our house is very tall...

(There are pics in my album of the outside of the house - I'm not sure if I described it right... Chat Icon )

we have a friend that works for benjamin moore paint.
he said that 500-600 is reasonable per room

we've been getting some quotes for our new house and they are falling into that range.

well i don't know how prices are in ny, but i was able to find someone in florida who quoted me 250 for two bedrooms plus one bathroom. if you shop around and find the right person, you can have it done for a great price. times are tough, and people are willing to negotiate!

Depends on the room size and whether they give you the paint or you buy it. Does the 500-600 include paint?

It also depends on how much prep is necessary. Are the walls in good shape? Is there a lot of spackling/sanding? Is there a lot of trim work & cutting? How many coats of paint is it? Are you covering over a dark color paint?

There are a lot of factors to take into consideration.

the price includes the paint
and they're pretty nice sized rooms

It depends on how big the room is - our rooms upstairs were pretty big, and needed a lot of patch work and priming and 2 coats of paint. $600 does seem high depending on how many rooms you are talking about.
