What is Parent Training

My son will start DDI in September for 4 hours per day for speech and transitional problems. We also are receiving parent training once a month there and after the meeting with the school they recommended it at home too (my husband made a bad comment).

So my question is what is Parent Training? And will what my husband said be on his record (my husband is tough with my son)?

TIA

Re: What is Parent Training

Parent trainers typically assist parents with coming up with new ways to approach their children when problem behaviors occur.
Parent trainers are specifically trained in ABA to understand how behaviors are learned and come up with strategies to reduce problem behavior and replace them with more appropriate actions.

ETA: Not sure who was at your mtg or if anyone was taking notes, but if someone wrote it down who knows where it could go. It won't show up on his IEP, however if you have an MSC and they were there, they may be required to put what he said in a case note if it was a REALLY bad comment.

What is Parent Training

We get Parent Training and overall, I find it helpful. We talk about different strategies that will help us help DS with behaviors, self help skills (dressing, eating, etc.) and resources we can go to for classes, assistance, etc. I also have had parent trainers who don't work for the school, so I have found that at times they are a good sounding board for what is going on at school and may have suggestions on what you should request from the school, or what other resources are available outside the school district.

There are definitely some sessions where we don't have as much to talk about since things seem to be moving along, but other times we have tons to talk about.

I got parent training last year for DD. The trainer basically came to the house and gave me tips and pointers on the best way to help with certain behaviors and ways to make our life easier in dealing with the issues. I think it is helpful to a point. Some of the suggestions were very helpful other things didn't work. I think a lot of it depends on who your parent trainer is as well.
