What is the best humidifier on the market?
I have some crappy Vicks humidifier that gets filthy with mold and sounds like it needs a muffler after a few months. DD's skin is very dry and I like to use a humidifier every night in her room. Is there one on the market that is hassle-free (not a lot of cleaning) and lasts a long time? Don't care about price if it's a great product. TIA!

I have an old Vicks one. My mom used it for us!!!
It's a warm mist one. I don't like the cold. It harbors bacteria and doesn't help one bit. Try to get a warm mist one. I love it and use it every night!

Re: What is the best humidifier on the market?
I have no idea. DH and I have been through at least 8 this season. Right now we have a Holmes Warm Mist and it's alright. the problem is the size of the room. We used to have a Vicks one with the Vapor insert and that was great but now DS is in a bigget room and that is too small.

The one I have is large, you can put the Vicks in the top.
Also, the warm ones don't get bacteria because the water is getting hot and it's sanitizing the water.

Re: What is the best humidifier on the market?
This one was the special value from QVC the other day (I didn't order it b/c DH said we didn't need it, blah blah blah)...I think I'm going to order it though, it's a few $$ more. So I don't have it yet, but I love that you just wash the parts inside, there are no filters, etc...Plus with QVC, if you don't like it you have 30 days to return it even after using it, just pay for the shipping.
I don't know how to post a link here, so I hope this works:

Sorry, technology isn't my thing
If you type in "Air Innovations Ultrasonic Humidifier w/Filter" it should come up. Let me know if it doesn't...and I mis-spoke, it obviously has a filter b/c of the name, but it's just that you don't need to replace it, only wash it!
ETA: It doesn't say anything about the size of the room it can work in though

We purchased a venta-air warm and cool mist humidifier from Bed Bath the other day. So far, it is great!

I thinking of getting one of these two. Germ Guardian Ultrasonic Vicks Germ Free
The only thing with the Vicks one is that the review all complained about it having a bright light.

I think that is backwards-I think the warm ones build up bacteria and it's recommended to use the cool ones.

This is what I was always told too. Cool mist is supposed to be better for the kids.

It is the warm mist ones are the ones that generally get more bacteria build up. Did they say in the instructions that the water gets hot and is santized? It would have to be boiling water...in a humidifier that doesn't sound right, actually sounds pretty dangerous.
I have cool air ultrasonic humidifiers. My kids have them in their rooms and we have one in ours. My pediatrician said that if you want it for skin dryness and coughs, the ultrasonic is the way to go. Also, we use distilled water to avoid some bacteria build up and white dust.

yes I agree, that is why I was told to ALWAYS use cool mist so that the bacteria does not fester and so that the baby can not get bruned with hot steam.

Yes, the water does boil.
I read an article saying that the warm mist were better, though definately NOT safer. The article said that the cool mist is the one that harbors all of the germs.
I'm confused now. All I know for sure is that my warm one does boil the water (for the first few minutes, I guess until it's hot enough), then keeps it warm. I have NO mold in the humidifier. And, it works great! I pick it up every morning and put it back down at night.
