What is the best treatment for fleas?
My Yorkie has gotten fleas for the FIRST time and I'm so upset!!! She's NEVER had them..and ever since we moved here w/the stray cat situation she has them. I've given her flea baths and she is wearing a collar, and we had that ointment that soaks into her skin. Seems like she is still scratching herself and I feel so bad.
She is due to go for a hair cut on Wed and I am going to cut it short and give her another flea bath and put that ointment on her. Will that do it??? HELP!!!

Re: What is the best treatment for fleas?
20 Muletean Borax works great for the floors...after your dog has been treated with the proper medication, ie, advantage/advantix/frontline, etc.....you should sprinkle the 20 Muletean Borax on couches, floor, carpeting...broom it in with a stiff broom...then go do another room, come back and vacuume it up. Repeat process in entire house.
Those little buggers will be gone.

Re: What is the best treatment for fleas?
We use Revolution every month, even during winter.
My dog has picked up fleas a few times in our neighborhood, and we have never become infested due to the Revolution.
I use a flea comb when I find the fleas, and you drown the fleas in a small container with water and liquid dish soap. The dish soap adds weight to the water and therefore keeps the fleas contained till they drown.
It is gross and I was grossed out the first time my doggie had fleas. You even see the fleas drown (move in the water and then sink dead to the bottom of the container).
So I use Revolution every month which renders flea's sterile. You would still see the flea alive on your pet, it is not a product that fleas die on contact. They just become sterile thus breaking the cycle of infestation.
And that is why I use the comb to get rid of any fleas I see (my dogs are small with short hair) and drown those suckers!

Re: What is the best treatment for fleas?
As per my vet, K9 Advantix is great for treating a flea problem and once they are gone, switch to Frontline because that is great for prevention of fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and such.

We use Sentinal year round to prevent it. It's a combination Heartworm/Flea preventive.
