What is the best way to treat diaper rash?
I'm so sad. DD has a diaper rash. Is it really painful? What's the best way to treat it and wipe her while she has it and how long does it take to go away?

I use Triple Paste. You can get it in CVS, it is like $10 for a small tube and it works so fast, literally in hours. I would just gently clean her and no bath until it gets better.

Re: What is the best way to treat diaper rash?
I second Triple Paste (ask for it at CVS pharmacy, its not Rx but sometime sthat's where they keep it). I also use Aquaphor and that really helps.

I use desitin which works for us... When DD gets diaper rash she never seems in pain.

Thanks girls. I try to change her often - but I don't want to wake her when she's sleeping.

I use Aquaphor or I mix vaseline with cornstarch and use that, both work great!

Re: What is the best way to treat diaper rash?
We called Triple Paste "The Magic Cream" in my house. I would keep a backup in the house b/c some times CVS was out of it.

Re: What is the best way to treat diaper rash?
A lot of women on here suggested Triple Paste. At first I didn't think it would work because I had something (from the UK called Sudocreme) that has a higher % of zinc oxide in it, but sure enough we tried Triple Paste and it worked like a charm! It's very expensive though so only use it when you really need to.

I used Aquaphor. My son had his only rash as a newborn when he was using Huggies Newborn wipes. He never had a rash after I switched the wipes.

Re: What is the best way to treat diaper rash?
butt paste works for us. I always try to air out the area as much as possible to - to dry it out.
since your baby is so young, you may want to not use the more abrasive wipes - stick to cloth and water or the natural/sensitive kind

and no bath until it gets better.
I read an article in the ped's office about treating diaper rash and it said that if it is really bad to soak them in a bath for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times a day.
I've also had to put DD in the bath in order to clean her because her rash was so bad that I could not wipe her at all (even with the soft gauze from the hospital nursery wet with just water) without her screaming in pain.

Re: What is the best way to treat diaper rash?
Definitely try Triple PAste. Also, I don't use wipes...I'll try to wash her with water and a little bit of soap instead. I find that the wipes irritate it more.

My kids only had diaper rash a few times so I got lucky. Desidin always worked for them.
