I put the eggs in cold water, bring to a boil, then turn down and leave on simmer for 10 mins. Works for me!

Mine kept breaking and I had to call my mom and ask what I was doing wrong! I had been putting them into the boiling water, not putting them in when it was cold.

Oh, I forgot, after you take them out, put them in cold water and the yolk will stay yellow and not turn green!

To make life really really easy....there's a little thing you can buy that you stick in the water to boil with the eggs and it tells you when they're done.....

Yes I know that! I did what you said with the cold water, boil, simmer for 10 minutes. After the turned off the heat I let them sit in the pot for a minute or 2, then I put them in cold water. And they came out perfect!! I already ate 3

Re: What is the correct time to boil eggs to make hard boiled eggs?
I usaully put them in cold water and bring it to a boil, then cover the pan and take off the heat and let them sit for about 18-20 mins. Then drop them in cold water to cool. I was afraid it wouldn't actually cook them, but it's what Betty Crocker told me to do and it seems to work.

The official way to cook hard boiled eggs is as follows (i learned this from Food Network- makes the whites not so rubbery):
put eggs in cold water in a pot that comes w. tight fitting lid.
Bring water up to boil
Shut off flame and cover the pot.
Let sit for 10 minutes covered...
After 10 minutes they'll be cooked perfectly!

I do this but for 15 minutes - it works! Then I let them cool in cold water. Although I still sometimes have problems getting the damn shell off
