Usually this is the case...teaching assistant..Makes more money, is in the classroom assisting the teacher and students, basically has more direct contact with students
Teacher aide..makes less money ,does things like working in the copy room, working in the lunch room, playground, sometimes office work
Now some districts use these terms interchangeably but there is a difference

Re: What is the difference between teacher aide and teacher assistant?
everything beautyq115 said and
assistants are usually teaching certified and are looking for a teaching job.
aides don't have to go to college (in most districts) and don't really do anything instructional.
of course this could depend on the district's terms that they use

i was a teaching assist for a few years and often we were thought of as teachers. I worked witrh the students in groups, taught small group lesons and worked and modified curriculum for spec ed students.

In my district, aides are usually 1:1 and just make sure the kid they are working with is focusing/staying on task/doesn't get lost. Assistants help all the students and do instructional tasks.

yes... but usually this is only if the teaching assistant has a teaching license to start. essentially districts on LI get teaching assitants that are in actuality certified teachers...

true but not always...I'm pretty sure RVC doesnt require that you have a teaching license and they do all that i stated above.
But every district is different
some districts treat teaching assistants as paras and others as teachers.
