what is the typical wight gain in the first year like?

I know everyone is different but what is the "typical" or suggested weight gain for a baby in the first year. lby 3 months should they have gained a certain amount and what about the first year? should they have doubled their weight by year one?

TIA

I think the 1st 4 or 5 months (maybe even 6)

they avg about 1oz/day which turns out to be 2lbs/ month

and then it slowly tapers off...

Ryan is just about 11 months
and at his last 2 visits, has gained less than 1lb each time... (I would say he gains about 1lb every 2- months)

so its more than doubled by the end of year one then? In some cases it maybe closer to 1 and a half times their birth weight? ok i was just wondering. honestly i was asking b/c i have all these clothes for next summer and i was wondering if she is possibly going to fit in to them. i bought some 12 months and some 18 months stuff and she will be a year next sept

ok just saw the 2nd response it can be almost tripled then wow thast amazing that this little bean willbe like 25lbs next year LOL

My DD will be 1 on 9/7--a September baby like yours! She is wearing 12 mos. and she has been all summer. Before that she was true to size all the way. Every baby is different, but Katherine is right around 50-60th %; in other words, right on target!

It depends on the child. My DS #1 definitely tripled his birthweight by 1 yr old. My DD is still not triple her birth weight and she's 2. My DS #2 is already 14 lbs and hes 3 months!

My doctor said that in general, its normal if they triple their birth weight by the time they are 1.
I think my DD is going to quadruple that!
My DS is on target with tripling.
My oldest son was 3 pounds away from tripling.

Kevin more than tripled his birth weight by a year - actually almost by 5 months. He was close to 20lbs at his 5 month visit....he was only born 7lbs 2oz....but by 9 months he slowed down and mostly grew taller. He was 24.5 by a year.

I have heard triple is about average.

Jesse gained a lot by his first birthday, but he was tiny at birth (born at 5lbs 5oz, and 20 pounds at his one year check up). He's still catching up though - he's very thin.

I think they want the babies to have doubled their weight between 4-6 months. My DS is 4.5 months old and at his 4 month well visit he was weighting in at 15.5 lbs. which was double his birth weight. The thing I have a problem with is that he is tall and has a long torso. He is 26 inches long. Right now he is wearing 6-9 months streches and rompers. 3-6 months in seperates because the pants would fall off.

This sounds like my son. At his 7 month visit he was 21 lbs. 2 oz, and 28 1/2 inches, he is wearing 12 month old clothes now at 8 months. He was born 8.7, so triple would be about rightChat Icon
