What is with the fried egg on a burger rage?

I always see chef's using a fried egg on a burger or sandwich...DH even makes a runny fried egg for his burgers! I personally cannot eat yolks, so I will never try it, but is it REALLY that good???

I think it's just a take on Steak Tartare.. for those who can't wrap their mind around the raw concept!Chat Icon

I've never actually had egg on my burger.. but I do LOVE a good tartare.. and I love over easy eggs. And I love a good burger.. so I would be willing to try it!

Interesting.

German dish, Schnitzel a la Holstein has a fried egg on top of a breaded veal cutlet. I've never tried it.

I'd rather have a fried egg with a runny yolk on top of a nicely buttered slice of toast.

I've never had tartare because I think even the most finely minced meat would skeeve me out texture-wise, but then I LOVEEE carpaccio...sooo??? Chat Icon

Soooo.. you are clearly a freak of nature.Chat Icon

Honestly, I never considered that there were people more opposed to the 'texture' than the raw aspect. I will say that the texture is unexpected and nothing like a chunk of raw burger meat that you might think of. It's actually soft and kind of has a velvety mouth feel.

Hahaha...I don't mind the raw aspect, but the texture of what I think tartare would feel like is what throws me off.

I am a FREAK about food texture and I do like tartar. I also ate carpaccio on my trip to the surprise of my family and friends. it's wasn't bad, as long as it's VERY thinly sliced!

I will never eat a fried egg on a burger though.

I am with susibee, who'e description of the perfect mate for a fried egg made me Chat Icon

I agree. I love carpaccio, but not too sure about trying tartare.

oh and also.... an OLD italian tradition -- like FROM italy that his father came to the US loving and now i make for my husband b/c he was raised on it is: red sauce in a skillet, heat it up, and crack two or three eggs right onto the sauce. wait about five minutes -- sizzle it on high and he eats it with italian bread. it is vinny's favorite thing lol.

I haven't had it but I would love to try it. I love burgers and I love over easy eggs so it seems like a good combo to me.
