What is your definition of the word "brunch"? (w/poll)

I recently realized that not everyone considers "brunch" to be the same thing. I consider it to be a combo of breakfast and lunch foods. I was just wondering what others defined it as!

"A meal usually taken late in the morning that combines a late breakfast and an early lunch." Merriam-Websters definition.

LOL! Me too! I recently planned a bridal shower and was doing a "brunch" menu. When I mentioned to someone the dishes I was thinking of making (eggs, french toast, baked ziti, sausage and peppers, etc.) they got all flabbergasted b/c those items don't go together! I explained to them that those items have been at typical brunches I've been at and they stated that a brunch is consider a large breakfast later in the day. We had to agree to disagree on that one Chat Icon

I voted the first choice, but I will also add that if I can't order eggs or french toast off the brunch menu, I am irritated. Chat Icon It usually involves at least one bloody mary as well.

Re: What is your definition of the word "brunch"? (w/poll)

I would say it's a combination of breakfast and lunch, but it usually consists of breakfast foods and light lunch foods. I would expect to see things more like quiche / finger sandwhiches and less like philly cheese steaks / sausage and peppers though... Then again, it's brunch... so I say anything yummy goes!

My baby shower was a brunch. There was everything from eggs to turkey, to pasta.
I've always considered it breakfast/lunch

Definetly a breakfast/lunch combo. My shower was a brunch and it was great, there was a good selection of breakfast & light lunch with a nice champagne punch.

I think I'd be surprised to see heavier meals like baked ziti and sausage and peppers at a brunch. The one's I've been to usually have breakfast foods - eggs, bacon, french toast, etc - and then some stuff you would have for a light lunch - like various cold cuts, quiche, salads, etc. And definitely fruit and pastries/muffins!
