What is your take on merit pay?
I just read this article. Sold out
Although I can't really comment because I no longer work for NYC- this really upsets me.
I always thought Randi was a sell out and this just proves it even more.
How is this fair to the teacher who gets the kids who clearly have a disability but fell through the cracks and receives no services? Or how about Special Ed teachers?
What's your take?

I don't like the idea of Merit pay. I think it will cause a lot of problems among teachers. Classes would have to be evenly distributed which is not possible with AP courses, Regents course and special education courses.

It is rediculous! So teachers in good schools in NYC would get it and teachers in horrible schools wouldn't because of the kids each of them have.
Also I agree Randi could give a $hit about us!!!

i agree with all of the above posts.... it's ridiculous and not fair!
how does a UNION president support this???? she is nuts.......
i would not get merit pay because my kids are severely LD and 2 yers below level as it is, but they are still responsible for taking the test. for them, the 2's that they do usualyl get is a huge accomplishment for them and me, but it wouldn't be under this idea.
it sucks... and puts teachers against each other and is not fair to special ed. teachers or teachers that are in underperforming schools.
