Re: what job would u take?

The big question for me would be possibility for advancement and job stability (especially in this economy).

ETA: And don't forget to consider other benefits (health care, 401(k)/403(b), etc.) I have a list of questions to ask when evaluating a job offer - let me know if you want me to send it to you.

Re: what job would u take?

Depends on how much you are making now (would $31K be a huge pay cut/lifestyle adjustment), what are the chances for advancement? Can you make up the salary in a few years with raises/advancement?

My biggest thing about my job and why I stay even though they pay isn't great and the commute is hell is that my boss is amazing and the people I work with are all smart and great. I think that's worth more than vacation time or $9K.

Re: what job would u take?

which one seems more stressful? my motto in life is that i work to live, i dont live to work.

so for a $9k difference, i would take the one that you would enjoy more and that wont stress you out.

but ONLY if the $9k isNT going to make a huge impact on your lifestyle.

Re: what job would u take?

I'm all about work life balance.... more money is nice, but it's not everything. I look at the total package including advancement opportunities, benefits, flexibility, etc...

I recently declined a job offer even though it was 15K more than I was making now. I would be working on one client and a limited variety of projects if I took the offer. In my current position, I have the ability to work across multiple clients and different projects. It doesn't hurt that I was able to get my company to pay for our family benefits and let me work from home 1 day a week.

assuming all of the other benefits are the same, how are the hours? if you get say, 4 weeks off but work 10 hour days the rest of the year, then that is no good to me.

Re: what job would u take?

I just declined an offered that paid 40% more per week because of the entire package...and it was position I REALLY wanted.

The hours, vacay, and work environment all impacted my decision.

Having worked for a manipulative, malicious person for the last year which cumulated in her having me ousted out of the company, i speak from experience when I say the above poster is SO right.

I would go with job number one.. I know it's less.. but I would go where you might be happier.. considering work is where we spend most of our time..Good luckChat Icon

Re: what job would u take?

It depends on the vacation time (amazing vs. so-so isn't concrete enough for me to base my response on Chat Icon ).

If it wasn't really a big difference, then i'd take the 40K job. Honestly, either work environment could be great, or it could $uck- you don't really know until you're in there. I'm all about time-off, but my next priority is money. The reason i work is to make money- and if it's going to take me away from my family, the $$ needs to be worth it, imo. But, if it were a difference of like 3 weeks vacation, then i might reconsider.
