What kind/brand shoes do you buy your kids (2-5yo)
Typically I'm a Striderite...but when I lost my mind today when my 4 1/2yo fell into a muddy pond, with <1month old sneakers, I realized maybe $$ sneakers aren't necessary.
Any thoughts/suggestions with your kids?

My DS only wears striderite, however I only ever purchase them from the outlet, and always when they are on sale...which puts them at the same price as any other pair of lesser quality shoes.

I too buy stride rite usually. The quality and fit are worth it to me. I recently got her a pair of sketches sneakers which are nice, I got them at kohls.

This season I got her two good pairs at Stride Rite, a pair of Nikes (from the Tanger outlet) and I supplemented a pair of "uggs" and a pair of Mary Janes from Payless.

Check out Nordstrom Rack. They have very reasonable shoes for kids.

This is me exactly. I feel like Striderite has worked well for us so far. DS beats up his shoes and they never look bad by the time he is ready for a new pair.

Re: What kind/brand shoes do you buy your kids (2-5yo)
I bought Stride Right when my DD first started walking but after that I started buying her shoes at Kohls, Target, Children's Place, Payless, etc. She wears a lot of Skechers sneakers which are pretty affordable depending wear you get them and hold up well too. Stride Rite is just expensive and in general, I don't find their selection to be overly cute. I find better styles and deals elsewhere.

DS is almost 6 and DD is almost 3. We either go to stride rite or sketchers. We only go to the outlets and get them when they are sale. We tried sneakers from Target, Walmart, and some of those other places but they just didn't fit right.

Ditto. Stride Rite to start but then these places mostly. He goes through sneakers like crazy and the other kinds of shoes he only wears once in a while (dress shoes, boots etc.) so I can't bring myself to spend a lot of $$ on them. DD is only 18 months and is still mostly wearing her Stride Rite/ name brand sneakers but I just got her little mary janes from payless and will try to get her some cheap boots too.

We buy sneakers at Target and Payless. They grow out of them so fast, I refuse to pay StrideRite prices.

Re: What kind/brand shoes do you buy your kids (2-5yo)
I'm no help both my boys have 3-5 pairs of sneakers all costing 50$ and up . I teach them to be aware of trying to stay clean ( I'm crazy about their clothes too) They are 17 months ( he doesn't get it) and 3.5.
I will say that if they swear out a pair quickly I use those as play shoes or we use rain boots as play shoes.

My DD has Saucony's right now that I got at Stride Rite. I usually only buy one pair at a time though, so I try to make sure it's high quality because she wears them a lot. For the winter I will also probably get her a pair of Ugg-ish boots from Payless.

Re: What kind/brand shoes do you buy your kids (2-5yo)
I did Stride Rite with my first one but realized that it wasn't worth spending $50+ on shoes every few months. Plus my pediatrician always said not to bother, there were no difference. My second child is Target all the way!

Wanted to add:
The VERY most that I ever spent on shoes at StrideRite Outlet was $34.99 and that was for a pair of leather hiking boots that *I* had to have Typically I never spend more than $19.99 and the average price is more around $14.99.

DD will only be 2 in Jan. but i refuse to spend a lot of money on shoes i know she will grow out of way to quck. I try not to spend more than 20 on a pair and thats rare when i do .... i love payless bogo 1/2 off
But with that said DH convinced me to buy her a pair of jordans ... i still cant believe i spent that much on shoes for her. She has a couple of DC that im waiting for her to grow in that i got off online on sale with shipping it came out to less thank $20 each

Do not undesitmate Payless, especially the sneakers, they are fabulous and half the price of Stride Rite!

Re: What kind/brand shoes do you buy your kids (2-5yo)
Are Payless and other brand shoes "good" for their feet? i have twins and I need to get my DC their fall shoes sooner rather than later. My DC are 22 months. I just don't understand how their are such differences in prices when it comes to Stride Rite and other stores. Are $20 shoes good enough for their feet? i mean I could buy Rocket Dog or Jimmy Choo for myself, you know what I mean?

I'm just a little obsessed with shoes for my DD. I always end up buying a pair of Geox, Lellie Kelly and a pair of Primigi each season.

Re: What kind/brand shoes do you buy your kids (2-5yo)
Stride rite outlet usually during a BOGO event. However I don't always love everything there especially for DS but usually can find at least one pair per kid I like.
For DD: She also has a pair of fake uggs from payless and 2 other pairs of dress shoes from target and children's place.
For DS: He also has a pair of DC skater sneakers They are soo cute and come in wide!
