What kind of car?

My DH is going to need a new car SOON. The problem is that he's going to have to add on about $5,500 onto another loan on another car. The car he has he still has 2 years left to pay on it and the car is the biggest piece of crap. There is no way it's going to last much longer, and I refuse to put anymore money into it. Can anyone recommend a new car that isn't too expensive? He needs a 4 door Sedan. We thought about used but we don't have any luck with used cars. Does anyone know anything about Suzuki's? It's definitely not our first pick but money wise... Adding $5000 to another loan is what's going to kill us! Any ideas? Thanks!

I would say a Kia or Hyundai because of the long warranty available on them.
I think its 5 years 60K miles bumper to bumper and 100K on the drive train.

That might be your best bet going with a cheaper car.

Re: What kind of car?

We just bought a 2005 Toyota Corolla (4 door sedan) and it is very very affordable, safe, and reliable.

ETA: we drove the Hyundai Elantra and were not impressed by it, but it was more affordable than the Corolla.

Re: What kind of car?

The suzuki Forenza is a great car. Someone I know has one and she loves it. She paid $17000 for it but she got a loaded model.

Here is what I would recommend:

Base model Chevy Cobalt $11,000, or the middle model at $15000

Hyundai Accent Sedan, or Elantra Sedan Both for under $15000 each

Kia Optima, Rio, Spectra All under $15000. They are made by Hyundai now.

Chevy Aveo Sedan.

I would buy a certified used car if I were you over a new car, because a new car loses so much value as soon as you pull out of the dealer. I bought my car from robert chevrolet in hicksville in 2003 and it is a 2001. I have not had one problem with it. Technically it is a toyota corolla, but it is sold by chevy. It is a Chevy Prizm LSI. I am very happy with my car, and I only paid $9300 for it. It sold for $17000 2 years b4.

Re: What kind of car?

Have you tried Carmax? I just checked and there are a few in NC. They have great used and new cars. The best part about them is that you don't have to haggle with sales people. The prices are usually a few hundred dollars below blue book value.

In 2001, DH got a used 99 Honda CRV that only 13K miles on it. They have all different makes and models - new and used. It's worth checking out.

Re: What kind of car?

Is your DH's current car a Nissan?????

Chat Icon We are having troubles with our Nissan and we have 2 years left to pay it off. We are getting rid of it!

We are going to look into a Mazda 6 or Mazda 3

I also like the Toyota Scion TC or Corrolla.

The New Chevy Cobalt I like, but only the 2 door.

I suggest to stay far far away from Nissan!

I will ONLY buy Nissan. I AHTE the Scion.
I agree with others, look at the Toyota Corolla.
You cant go wrong with Honda, Nissan or Toyota....will last forever.

We got a Toyota Matrix a few months ago and it's great on gas. It's actually based on the Corolla, but it's station-wagon-y looking. Has 4 doors, lots of room. Think we got it for $16k.
