What kind of daughter do i have?
well, ive gotten a couple of comments lately about the "oh, wait until shes 2!" like she is some ticking time bomb waiting to go off...now, im not saying that there are going to be no trying times, but is my child all of the sudden going to "act the fool"?
some of you who already know hannah, know her, and for those who dont- i got pretty blessed with a child that goes with the flow with anything- she doesnt beg, cry, whine, throw temper tantrums...she is happy doing whatever- jumping in the car and driving to the mall, staying in and playing and coloring and painting....shell hang and play solo while i make dinner and clean up the kitchen....ive even been known to take a shower while shes playing bc the girl doesnt get into anything (no wall sockets, no coloring the walls, no pulling the xmas tree....) etc...
anyway, im totally not bragging (thats just not me- im just giving u her background)....no, ive been reading discipline books and stuff about timeouts and praise and all that stuff (ive been since she was born)....i guess my question is do i just have a good natured child....will there all the sudden BE a terrible 2? will she throw herself to the ground? get loud with me, say NO!!?? i mean, im sure there will be times, like i said, but is it just the child that i have....
i just hate the comments about "just wait"- they even come from my mom!!! like i cannot just have a GOOD child?!! is it just unheard of?
i dont know- TIA for any advice or general comments u all have...maybe u have a child like hannah who is now 4 years old and still a great child....???

I don't think you can generalise about any one child...all kids are different things on different days.

I agree with this.
She could turn on a dime at 2, which most kids dont manage to escape without a few terror moments, or be a blessed angel.
And everyone elses kid the same scenario...

If she;s so easy going now, I doubt something will swicth in her head and make her overly temperamental. Like you said, she'll of course have her moments, but she'll probably stay on the easy side. My son however, .

My son used to be a well tempered, easy going child, who would like to play nicely by himself........ now he is a monster too

I agree, Julia is a lot like Hannah and I don't see her changing her temperment either, I would just ignor what others tell you!

Re: What kind of daughter do i have?
[, if you have an easy going child i don't think she will change much. That is how my DS was/is to this day and he is now 7 yrs old. He never once threw a tantrum , never ever. He never put anything in his mouth, never had to worry I could nap while he was playing or go in the shower. He didnt' get into things, no wall sockets drawers nothing. We could go out to dinner and he would just enjoy himself. Where ever. My DD on the other hand she is a whole different story and that started at 6 months. So I know I will have my hands full. Sounds to me like you have a good little girl on your hands. I wouldn't put to much stock in what people keep saying about wait until she is 2. Sometimes the child just never gets the terrible 2' or 3's

Re: What kind of daughter do i have?
I think eventually every child takes their turn with monsterhood.
For the most part, the terrible twos are about 2 issues - communication & control.
If you have a child who is an early talker & can express what they want, it makes everything a lot easier. I've said this before but putting ketchup in the wrong spot could cause a tantrum with a child. Having the ability to say "Here" or "I do it"is a big deal.
If you're the type of mom that is very easy going & gives your child independence enough to make his/her own mistakes - falling, eat dirt, explore on their own - you'll see less terrible two tantrums. (and from what I've seen - you are that type of mom).
The child's temperment also is a huge factor. Even if you're the easy going mom, you can have the child that is more high-maintenance. You can have the child who is stubborn. You can have the one that wants to run, run, run...and um...run away from you. The one who has sensory issues.
All of these can affect the onset of monsterhood. Honestly, I think you hit the jackpot in terms of good communicaiton, easy going mom & easy going child. BUT that's not to say, you won't see any of tantrums. There will always be issues of independence starting from 17 months - 21 years old. It's only a matter of when.
For me, I'm hoping that having no "Terrible Two Year Olds" episodes with Maddie doesn't translate to having the "Terrible Sixteen Year Olds".

Re: What kind of daughter do i have?
i hate comments like that too.. i got them all the time when kayla was a baby because she was such an ANGEL as a baby... well i felt like i was jinxed, because right around her 2nd birthday she started with the crazy tantrums and stuff that i never thought she would do.. but i dont think its something that EVERY good baby will definitely start doing when theyre 2 or whatever... it all depends on their personal situation.. every child is different.... and honestly i can say my DD turned out the way she did because of the way i have raised her so far... like a PP said- theres no switch in every baby's head that automatically goes off at a certain age.. there are many contributing factors.. and in my situation i can admit to contributing to my DD's spoiled rotten stubborn ways...

Re: What kind of daughter do i have?
Emma was an ANGEL!!! Couldnt ask for a better child but while I won't say she is the devil I will say she has become challenging. In the beginning it's all about what you want them to do and they are accepting but then they get a mind of their own. While the terrible 2's may not hit (I think 3 is worse personally) there is a 99% chance she will not always be so agreeable.

Re: What kind of daughter do i have?
I hate to say it, but their temperaments do change. Not that 2 is the magic number...it's actually 3 and up...but...change does happen.
I found it happened when my son started nursery school and was with other children on a daily basis. He saw other types of behavior, different from his own, and followed suit. Not saying he became a monster, he just sort of, tried to sow his oats. See what he could/ couldn't get away with. Now that he is almost 6, I can say that he really is a sweetheart, everyone that knows him says the same, but of course, at home, at times...he can be beastly.
Every child is different. There is NO way for you or for anyone else to predict what your child will be like in a year, a month, a day for that matter. Just enjoy her now, keep praising her for her behavior...and print your post out for you to read on her 16th birthday!

Your not kidding! AS a SAHM, my son had limited contact with other kids prior to starting his 3 year old nursery program. It was basically just supervised playdates in my home with friends' children here and there. It's a WHOLE other world when they go to school. And...my son went to a Catholic school and they were pretty strict and disciplined! But you know...kids mimic other children- the good and the bad... I couldn't shelter him forever and they need to see other types of behavior to learn right from wrong. Some do, and unfortunately, some don't. You just have to hope that all of your hard work at home pays off.

YES You've met Andrew. While he has some "moments", he's always been a very good child
And, and since everyone knew how good he was as a baby, they told me my next one would be a terror to "pay back". well.... partly true. She was good for her first year before all hell broke loose!

Re: What kind of daughter do i have?
Can I just ask that we not equate temper tantrums with a child being good or not. My daughter is simply amazing and does throw some mild tantrums sometimes, but I would never say she's not "good". KWIM? I know I'm reading into it way too much, I know, but still, they're just babies and toddlers, labeling them good or not good bothers me. That being said, I think that every child goes through a stage of asserting themselves. Some might be more dramatic than others, but it's a part of developing their personality.

I agree. Nothing is worse than hearing your child say they are "bad".
