What kind of design style goes in a Tudor house?
I tend to like more modern designs. Not super contemporary, but more modern like Crate & Barrel. This does not really fit into the style of our new house.
Do you guys have any examples besides Pottery Barn stuff? We'll eventually need formal living room furniture and a dining room set.
TIA!

How about stuff from Pier 1? They're not too expensive and can be modern/as well as fitting in to a tudor style home...

I'd look at Ethan Allen. I know someone who is a design consultant at the store in Forest Hills (not sure where your house is) whose work is beautiful. If you are interested I can get you her info.

I would go with a more traditional look. How about Ethan Allen furnitures?

That's what thinking. My parents have a really nice dining room set from Thomasville. They said that we can have it. While its not my style, its really nice and it would look great - and its free! We'll see....

Re: What kind of design style goes in a Tudor house?
Congratulations !!! - We will be closing on our Tudor (in Massapequa) in a few weeks -
While I think your right re: an ultra modern/contemporary decor not really 'suiting' the Tudor, ultimately, you have to put your mark on the house to make it your own. - There is no rule re: how your home must be decorated !
Check out the HGTV website, they have a lot of 'room' ideas and you can get a feel for a style you think you'd like -
Go to the Crate and Barrel store and look around though, they have alot of very warm colors and deep woods tones lately - If you usually like Crate and Barrel, (I'm assuming you like the look of the clean lines rather than something ornate) you may be able to find some really nice things that you still feel suit your personal style as well as 'fit' in your new home !
I'm not in the market for furniture just yet, but keep me posted re: what you find ! Good Luck and CONGRATULATIONS again !!

Re: What kind of design style goes in a Tudor house?
I think modern country and shabby chic go really well in tudors. You can do a real mish mash of styles in tudors, but I think ultra modern is not a good look! I grew up in a tudor and loved it!

I would think Mission style would look nice in a tudor home. It has clean and simple lines and you can definity find stuff in Ethan Allen and mix the mission and modern or transitional.

I think craftsman, mission or cottage style would look great. I love tudors. You could really work off the English look and do Laura Ashley prints too.

You can always do any look you like, but if I were to match the house and the design style, I would say English country or French country.

I think Mission or arts and crafts style looks great with Tudor homes. I saved thes epics form a beautiful Tudor in Patchogue that I wa sin love with a few moths ago-
eta- sorry, I was answering the "what style" part- I don't know where to buy anything!
