Could he be teething already?

My DS just turned 6 weeks but I'm starting to wonder if he's teething already...

He's drueling A LOT, eating his hands, and a bit cranky and having difficulty with his daytime naps (not nights thank god but he's never slept more than 4 hours yet). He used to sleep 2-3 hours sometimes 1-2 times during the day but he hasn't in days. He cries and I can't make it stop. He's not gassy anymore, in fact he's got good BM and urine output. He's BF I dunno if that matters...

I even stuck my finger in his mouth and feel two bumps on the front top but not the middle. He's actually sucking on his thumb for the first time and just fell asleep.

On another maybe he's older than we think track, he stood up today when I was holding his hands doing some sitting exercises! We're in trouble We're gonna get video of it when he wakes up since he did it 3 times and loved it - big smile!

I question the SAME thing for my DD who is 11 weeks... hmm?

Babies are actually born with their teeth present you can see them on sonograms(under the gums of course) teeth can start pushing early but they still may not pop up until 6 months but your little one may still be feeling discomfort. Oragel is great and if there is major discomfort Tylenol for pain (if no stomach probs... and your pediatrician says its OK) Not tylenol cold just plain tylenol.

There's NO WAY we'll be able to take this for 4 more months!

ETA we opened his mouth and there are two incisors sticking out under the gums on top! Is this usually there?

We started the process probably about 2 months ago when DSs were 3 months old... no teeth yet ... but some days are worse than others, and therefore, some days they are grumpier than others.

funny you mention this, I was just saying this to my mother last week , that DD has been drueling so much too.

I work with kids only, Im a dental hygienist and havent come across any literature or patients/parents with early of signs of teething other than 4 months. Monday is my first day back , Im going to ask my boss and pull out some dental books to see. Im curious myself.

I know of another issue mothers have come in with regarding their children and drueling and it was the child didnt know how to swallow their saliva and had to see a speech therapist b/c the child would druel constantly.

The usual eruption time is 6-8 months but everyone is different some earlier and some later. I had teeth at 3 months there have been cases we learned about in school that babies were born with teeth (like 1 or 2) so it is possible!! The usual eruption pattern is USUALLY the lower incisors are first (2 lower centrals) then the Upper centrals then backe to the lower and then upper but those are debatable! The top teeth Centrals may not appear to be coming in totally in the center of the mouth the frenum may be in the way and as the teeth erupt it usually moves into proper position and then as the other teeth erupt they will shift the teeth into more central proper positions (I.e. close the space between the front teeth-most of the time!) Like I said this is uaual and everyone is different there are also cases of things that appear to be teeth or little pimples that are on the gums that are actually not teeth and many new borns have them they are called epstein pearls or Bohmn's nodules totally not a problem don't even worry if that ends up being the case the teeth should be fine and erupt normally!

Yes, they can start early. My DD is a couple of days younger and the doctor pointed out that she is starting to have swelling on her gums (precursor to teething) already. She is drooling tons and loves to suck on stuff. She also tugs on my nipples which isn't so fun.

We have the same problem with napping during the day and last night she was up every two hours and is usually good for at least 4 hours if not six during the night. But she also suffers from really painful gas so that doesn't help.

Sound like our kids are at the same point.

My DS got his first 2 teeth at 17 weeks so he was teething for awhile before that so he definitely could be teething already!!!
