I got my first ticket yesterday!
I was driving to the library and I rolled through a stop sign.
Cop pulled me over and asked for my license, reg, and insurance.
I began to say, I'm so sorry, Im a good driver, blah, blah, blah.
Anyway, he said wheres your insurance, I said right there, he says no you dont have it and winks at me
He goes back to the car, (there was another cop there) and comes back and gives me a ticket for not having my insurance w/ me instead of not stopping at stop sign and gives me a number and place I can call and submit my insurance info so the ticket can be voided.
Now, was this better? Do I still get points on my license? What was the point? The cop really freaked me out. He looked like the guy from Silence of the Lambs

That's ALOT better. Because if you can prove you DO have insurance the ticket gets "thrown out"

Because he pulled you over so he had t give you something, but then he felt bad, so he gave you the bogus insurance ticket so it can totally be voided and you won't have to worry about it.
he was being nice.

Lucky you. All you have to do is submit insurance proof and the ticket vanishes! Even though he was scary looking, he did you a favor. It was your lucky day!

oh ok, I have a new outlook on that cop now. He really was just weird.

Yeah - a lot of times they start to fill out the ticket before they get to the car, so they have to give you a ticket for something. An insurance violation is better than a moving violation that would have given you points and possibly an increase in insurance costs. This happened to me once, I got a seatbelt violation even though it was fairly obvious I had my seatbelt on! I was actually a little upset because I would never NOT wear my seat belt!!!!

Not necessarily.
he may have started writing the ticket already- once they do that there is nothing they can do
just as an FYI.....
in Nassau you can ALWAYS plead down your ticket in suffolk you can't
I got a bad speeding ticket in Nassau and I hired a lawyer for $100 ( if you want his name FM me) and he got it dropped down to a failure to signal
from 6 pts to 2 pts-

Just send in a copy of your insurance card with the ticket, and you will be cleared. I got into an accident (very minor) once and didn't have my recent insurance card. The cop gave me a ticket, but I sent in the copy of the card, and no problems!

I just got a parking ticket recently for something bogus and the website said i could just send in my proof and as long as i dont hear from them buy the respond date that i dont have to do anything....

But in all seriousness, I just couldnt firgure out why he gave me a ticket if he knew it was bogus....But like ther girls said, once he started writing the ticket, he cant stop.
