Were There Double Standards in Your Household?
My brother is 3 years younger than me and my parents definitely treated us differently. He got away with so much more than me. I think part of it was b/c I was older and they had already been through it with me, but I think the main reason my parents were more lenient with him was b/c I was a girl.
One time that really pizzed me off was when I was home for the summer during law school. DH came to visit one weekend. He and I had been dating for 1 1/2 years and were moving in together that fall. DH had to stay in the guest bedroom, which was fine. I normally respect my parents' decision. However, my brother also had his college girlfriend of 2 months coming to visit for the weekend. She was allowed to stay in his room "on a spearate chairbed" (yeah right). Meanwhile, he had his door closed the entire time. I was never allowed to close my door with a boy in my room.
I hope when I have kids I'd treat them equally, but I guess you never know. How did your parents treat you and your siblings?

Re: Were There Double Standards in Your Household?
Yes. Well, my mom has 4 kids, so there are quadruple standards. I understand that each child has different needs, but they should at least have one set of rules. Now, my brothers who still live at home get away with everything!
I had to be home by 10:00 until I was 17! My brothers are allowed until whenever they want. I know they say it is safer for boys, but not really becaus I had to be home before all my friends so i had to walk by myself instead of with my cousin, who lived around the block and was allowed out later.

Re: Were There Double Standards in Your Household?
Same here. When I was younger I had a curfew of midnight until I was 18!!! Once I turned 18 I STILL had a curfew of 2am. This didn't change until I moved out of the house at 19. My brother on the other hand, NEVER had a curfew, came and went as he pleased, cursed his a$$ off to my parents (where I had to watch everything I said). Basically he got away with murder and was still the angel in everyones eyes.
Dives me crazy, even to this day. He's 5 years younger than me.

Re: Were There Double Standards in Your Household?
There are 7 of us, I was #1, I ruined it all for the rest of them....
none of my sisters were able to date in HS, I had a serious boyfriend in HS(who is now my DH) I got so wrapped up in "us" that I quit the basketball team mid season my senior year, and gave up an acedemic scholarship to a 4 year school to go to community college with him. I did not want to leave him...
The rest of my sisters went to All girls catholic high schools no boys allowed. So far it worked, 3 of them went away to school, the last one is a HS senior and is also going away.

Yup. I'm the first born and got to do nothing My sister is 2 years younger than me and got a very little amount of more freedom.
My brother is 5 years younger than me, just turned 18, curses at them all the time, does whatever he wants because he's a boy. Just today he came home from school and yelled at my mother for not making his bed. He gets to have his gf in his room with door closed.
I am 23 soon with a bf for over 4 years, and he has never ever seen my bedroom. Till this day when I go out my mother starts calling me a 7pm every hour on the hour telling me to come home. A lady doesn't stay out past dark. I ignore her but still come home much earlier than my bro ever does.
