On a lighter note, need easy recipe ideas for my birthday BBQ next week
I am the "chef" of the bunch and don't want to do the same old burgers and dogs (even though I will still have them)
Easy to make recipe ideas, because, you know, I shouldn't be doing anything!!!!

One thing that always goes over well at my BBQs and is super easy is to marinate chicken tenders in Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. I start it the night before and they are always so tender and flavorful after BBQing them.
To jazz up my burgers I make homemade pattys and put worsteshire sauce, garlic salt and pepper in my burgers.
You can offer tons of "fixings" for the burgers....raw red onions, carmilized onions, cooked mushrooms, bacon, avacado, different cheeses, etc. Like a make your own awesome burger bar!

do a huge ceasar salad and marinade some steaks, shrimp and chicken, throw it on the grill then slice and have people put over the salad portion then make some garlic bread.
for appetizers, you can do a veggie plater with hummus dip, chips and good salsa (from tarder joes), moozarella w. tomato and basil and may blue cheese and nice crackers or something

I made these kabobs (sp?) all the time and they go over very well Take chicken and cut it up in cubes (1 inch peices) and marinate in saucy susan peach/apricot marinade --buy in any supermarket
then wrap chicken pieces with uncooked bacon---i normally cut the bacon slices in half so half a piece of bacon gets wrapped around each peice of chicken.
then you just place them on a skewer with cherry tomatoes, slice of onion and slice of pepper then piece of chicken and keep repeating till you have filled the skewer.
I do the same thing with shrimp but do not wrap it in bacon (because i am vegeterian) but I am sure it would taste good if you did!

If you like seafood - you can make a simple shrimp salad, it's very refreshing.
Shrimp EVOO Some chopped garlic (or garlic powder) Lemon Juice some fresh basil salt & pepper

for some grilled shrimp, I marinate them in fresh lemon juice, olive oil, butter, garlic and salt and pepper. Put them on skewers and grilled 4-5 mins on each side (oh save some marinade on the side too)
