I started with my daughter a little before 4 months old. I think it is different with every baby - but around 4 months is a pretty good time.

they say 5 months... CIO isn't for every baby though... it worked for my kids but was much more difficult with Mallory

I read 6 months, though we started at 5. Not all babies handle it so well. I've heard some get so worked up that they vomit/hyperventilate. If Alex ever did that I would stop right away. Thankfully though, Alex took to it very well. THe first night she cried for 20 minutes and now she'll fuss for at most 2-3 minutes when I put her to sleep...

CIO is not really for young babies like 4 months old. Personally I would not have my 4 month old crying for hours. I would wait untill6 months if you feel it is the right way to go.
