Help...getting him to sleep longer at night...

Christopher ALWAYS sleeps for 9 hours (give or take 15 minutes), regardless of what time he goes to bed and regardless of what I feed him prior to bed time. He hardly naps during the day...maybe 2 hours tops (3 on a good day). I KNOW that he's not getting enough sleep, but he refuses to sleep any more than that. He fights it like you wouldn't believe. Is there anything I can do that would possibly help him sleep longer or is this just the schedule I'll have to put up with?

Re: Help...getting him to sleep longer at night...

Before Kevin was a year, he rarely slept more than 9-9.5 hours at night (with 2-8 night wakenings - not for food - more like separation anxiety - I think or teething). He napped about 1.5 hours a day. Everything I read said a baby that age should sleep longer but that was just his schedule - I think that was from like 6-10months. At around a year he started waking up less at night (athough only now are his teething popping - go figure) and sleeping longer at night and napping great in the day (I would say naps got better at maybe 9-10months). Have no clue how that happened - I didn't change a thing. Although at about a year he started walking - so maybe he was just knocking himself out in the day? Whatever it is - I hope I am not jinxing myself by posting this.

Sorry I am no help - just wanted you to know you aren't the only baby who didn't require a lot of sleep. DO you think he needs more sleep - is he tired/cranky in the day due to lack of sleep?

Also, does his room get a lot of light? maybe the sun wakes him up? I know that started happening with my son and we just got room darkening shades for his room.

Thanks for your response! He actually doesn't wake at all during the night. He stays out for the full 9 hours, but then he wakes up in a frenzy. It's not like he gets up and starts cooing, he SCREAMS bloody murder. Also, his room's the darkest room in the house. I made sure to get thick curtains, so I don't think it's the sun.
He usually goes to bed at 9 and he's up by 6:30. Last night, he was out at 8:30 and was up at 5:30. It's practically always 9 hours to the T.
Honestly, I do think he needs more sleep. In the beginning he was the sweetest and happiest baby around, but lately, he's just been cranky and fussy and angry. The Ferber method worked getting him to sleep at night, but it doesn't work for naps. Nothing seems to work.

ETA: By lately, I don't mean the last couple of weeks, I mean the last couple of months. He has his moments where he's back to his old self, especially when we go visiting, but for the most part, he's incredibly cranky.
