Christening ~ Baptism
Any planning yet? How long after the baby arrives? In my family it was always done straight away.

Mine too! The Mother and baby are not allowed out of the house either. My mom told me that she was filling out invitations for mine while she was in the hospital.

Re: Christening ~ Baptism
i plan to book it after a few months - around 2-3 months. I will absolutely take my child out of the house - before then - being Catholic - I still don't really understand the logic of keeping a child indoors until they are baptised?
What is the real reason? If something were to happen, it can happen anywhere....
I can't bring myself to book the church until the baby has arrived and is in my arms - which will be soon enough anyway!

Re: Christening ~ Baptism
I already started looking into churches since we have to find a new one. She is due the beginning of May and we are planning the baptize her the end of june the earliest.
My family believes in that too, that the baby isn't suppose to leave the house until he/she christened, but otherwise we want to do by the time she is 2 months old.

Re: Christening ~ Baptism
I'm due at the end of May so maybe in the end of August or early September. It also depends on what the church has available.

Re: Christening ~ Baptism
I think it's crazy to have to keep them inside until they are baptized. A little fresh air is good for them too i'm sure.

Oh I totally agree, one of those old old wives tales. I would go nuts cooped up in the house for that long! As soon as I can walk normally I am going to be outside with the baby!

Re: Christening ~ Baptism
We had Sarah's when she was about 3.5 months old. My church wants you to book it in the 4th or 5th month of pregnancy, so you have time to take the prep class (it's like an hour) before the baby arrives.
I have to call them soon for baby #2. I'm due at the end of June, I'm thinking of having it in late August.

Re: Christening ~ Baptism
We are looking into planning it now, thinking April or May. The church we joined awhile back isn't too active so we may try another one. She is due early March so depending on the weather it may be a little cold to be outside anyway. I know a lot of people my family included think it 's bad to bring the baby out before then, no clue why though... Wasn't sure if it were an Italian - Catholic thing or what...

It's a catholic thing. A lot of really religious people think that the devil can do something to the baby if it's taken out of the home before it's christened. I think back in the day they were done in your home maybe, because how do you get to the church without going outside? Fortunately my family isn't uber religious.
