Anyone have problems with Optimum Online internet?
We've been battling intermittent internet outages for weeks now and Cablevision so far hasn't come through with any solution.
I called tonight, while the internet was out, and went through troubleshooting with a tech. In the middle of it, it starts working again. So the tech thinks she's done. I tell her she's not.
She starts giving me ideas about what could be causing it. My browser. My network card. My computer. My spyware. My viruses. My my my.
At which point, I lay my cards on the table and tell her that I'm a professional network administrator and rebutt everything she said.
End result? They're sending a tech out. And if they don't find anything wrong, we get charged $50.00. And since this problem is intermittent, it may just so happen that the problem won't happen while a tech is here.
Has anyone had intermittent internet outages and had a dispute with them? If they charge us for this service call, we're considering switching to Verizon DSL. Verizon FIOS would be better but it's not available in our area yet.

We had the same problem a few months back. They did not charge us anything. The tech came and found no problem but changed our connection because he felt that when it rained the water was leaking in and disrupting our service. Optonline should be able to tell you how often your service went down and for how long. I'd fight them even more and keep calling everytime it goes out.

Since it is intermittent, they should be able to tap into your line to see if there is any break in the signal. The problem does not always exist in the line going to your house. They need to check the lines in the street to be sure. I had a problem a few months ago where I was not getting all the channels for my t.v. As it turned out, they had to run new lines in the street, because that was where the break occurred.

we had the same thing - we got the optimum online when it first came out - recently cablevision upgraded their wires - we werent getting all the channels on the TV and the cable modem was intermittent - they upgraded our cable wires (for free) and we havent had a problem since.

Re: Anyone have problems with Optimum Online internet?
Thanks ladies... I just don't want the tech to get there, find no problem because it's not actually happening while they're there, and charge me.
I have very little faith in service these days, so I guess I'm just being negative about it.
But I'll be home to talk to him/her about it, so hopefully they find something. I ran some speed tests at dslreports.com and my upload speed is 89% less than other ool customers who have done the same test.
I also found there was 36db of noise on the line, where there should be less than 30 (according to dslreports).
Wish me luck!!
