Need BC Advice
OK, I need some advice from you ladies. It may be TMI for some of you, so here is a fair warning. But any advice would be appreciated!
OK, I've been taking Ortho-Tri Cyclen for almost 7 years now. I get the spotting side effects. Some months, if feels like I have my period every day! Almost everytime my husband and I have intercourse, I bleed. I am at the point where I am getting depressed and I hate my body because of these side effects. Has anyone else experience these side effects? I am seriously thinking of stopping the pill! I can't take it anymore. The only reason why I haven't stopped already, is because my biggest fear is getting pregnant! I don't want kids at this point in my life, and neither does my husband.
What advice can you give me? Other means of birth control? My DH doesn't want to use condoms and refuses to get a vicectamy (SP?) WHY is is soley my responsibility to deal with birth control?????

Re: Need BC Advice
Try a different pill.
I started on ortho and hated it. Was on another pill for years and ended up with side effects. Now I've been on a new pill for a couple of years with no problems.

Re: Need BC Advice
Why don't you speak with your Dr about changing pills? I know that certain people have bad reactions to certain kinds of bc pills. Maybe you just need to change to a different dosage or a different brand all together...
Good luck!

Re: Need BC Advice
For your first issue: Ask your Dr. about a different pill. If you had a different amount of hormones, you might not get the spotting.
For your second issue: No BC should not all your responisbility. It takes two to get pregnant, and he should be just as responsible as you in the BC. If you need to go off the pill because it is making you miserable, then sorry, he needs to step up. Too bad for him if he doesn't want to wear condoms, he's gong to have to start doing it. It is not fair at all it should all be on you.

Re: Need BC Advice
I was on tr-cylen for years until I started spotting. My Dr. switched me to Yasmin and the spotting stopped. You should talk to your DR. Your body has probably gotten too well adjusted to your pills.

Re: Need BC Advice
Omg - have you been living with this problem the whole time you've been on the pill? Talk to your Doctor!! Get on a different pill!
And if you want a form of BC that requires less effort to remember - ask your GYN about the NuvaRing, or even an IUD.

Re: Need BC Advice
i had the same problem with ortho tri cyclen after being on it 5 or 6 years. about six mos. ago i started trying new pills. each has been worse than the last. i have had severe depression, weight gain, horrible cramping...long story short, i am going to ask to go back to ortho tri cyclen because everything else has been awful for me (at this point i have tried 7 other pills).

Re: Need BC Advice
I dont use pills right now but I used to be on a few brands. Ortho tri clyclen was awful- I spotted every single day- I felt like I never was with out my period. It also had a bit to do with the fact that I didnt take it at the same time everyday- I could never remember.
I used ortho trclyen -low which was much better and I had Dh call me everyday at the same time to remind me when to take the pill- I didnt have any side effects on that.

Re: Need BC Advice
Call your doctor right away. Try another pill. I've been on 9 different ones. Your body changes over the years and it may begin to reject or just get used to the one you are on and thus give you new side effects. I was on one for 7 years, no problems, then overnight basically, it was awful. I kept trying different ones til I found one with the levels of estrogen/progestrone that are good for my body. A good doctor will help you find the perfect pill. There are so many out there, you shouldn't have to suffer.

Re: Need BC Advice
Thanks everyone. My Dr. appointment is on Saturday. I am going ot ask her to switch me to a different pill. It can't hurt. Hopefully I will get lucky and it will be the first one that I try! LOL! I appreciate everyone's advice. And I sure am glad that I am not alone on this!
