Re: Question for those who work in the city...
Well, you know, that was one of my MAJOR reasons for switching jobs to work in NJ, so I can drive everywhere. I was jostled around enough as it was when I was in the city. And I would be exhausted even though I was not pg. I honestly don't know how pg women do it!

Re: Question for those who work in the city...
I work in the city but my office is at Penn Plaza so I can't speak to the subways. The LIRR was no big deal - as long as the car was air conditioned. At one point during my pregnancy due to a derailment, we had to take the train out of Brentwood. That was probably the worse part.
With my second pregnancy, I was exhausted and dealing with a toddler. By my eighth month, my mind was completely shot. In 3 weeks, I slept through my connection at Jamaica 5x, took the wrong train by accident 2x, got off at the wrong station (I park at one of 3 depending on what train I could cath) 4x. I explained to my husband that I had been commuting for over a decade so my record wasn't that bad. He said "In 15 days, you've made it home four times.
I imagine it would be tough to be on your feet all day traveling.

Re: Question for those who work in the city...
I just started my 7th month and just got the go ahead from my dr. to cut my work wk down to 4 days. It's been tough being on the LIRR and subway every day but only recently has it become a real struggle. But its different for everyone, so I would play it by ear and see how you feel.

Re: Question for those who work in the city...
I have had no problems commuting- but I usually take the train 1 stop. However, the few times I needed to take a long trip on the train,. someone has always offered me their seat.

Re: Question for those who work in the city...
I worked in NYC my entire pregnancy - Taking the LIRR from Stony Brook to Penn Station, and then the subway to Wall Street. It wasn't easy - and got much harder the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy. Like everything else it's a personal choice, and what you can tolerate. I can say that when/if I have another baby, I won't be working in NYC...

Re: Question for those who work in the city...
I'm 5 months pregant and I take the train into Penn, then 2 subways. It's been getting a little tougher, but I've just learned to take it slow. It's funny because I used to be the speedwalker, now I'm the big slowpoke everyone is trying to get around

Re: Question for those who work in the city...
I am on week 35 and I work in the city. commute by LIRR and then I used to walk across town, now I either take the subway or cab etc. I have still been doing 5 days a week, but I only have 2 weeks left of work. It is hard, I'll be honest, but it didn't really slow me down until a month ago. I would play it buy ear. If you like your job, I wouldn't quit just b/c you get prego. Try it and see how your body feels..tehn if you can't handle it, make the decision...evryone is different. We have had a mild winter, which has helped as well.
Good luck whatever you decide!!
